Biography

Dee Dee Lannon plays her own brand of honky tonk and rockabilly - her big, unique voice and heartfelt songs have won over the hearts of audience and critics alike - from Japan to Sweden, from California to Texas.

Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Dee started off playing the alternative country scene at the Paradise Lounge, the DNA and Slim's. Opening for acts like Asleep At The Wheel and The Beat Farmers, she and her band The Rhythm Rustlers established themselves as a high energy, exciting act that drew crowds in the city and out. Dee was featured on the Shindig Records alternative country compilation "Lazy, Loud and Liquor'd Up" which was produced by Art Alexakis, now the leader of Everclear.

After moving to LA in 1991, Dee quickly fell in with the traditional country and rockabilly scenes at the World Famous Palomino Club, and the Blue Saloon, where she held a weekly residency (the other nights were held down by Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Trio/Boys, The Dave and Deke Combo, and Russell Scott). She appeared to rave LA Times reviews at the Elvis tributes at the Club Lingerie, and was featured twice on Little Art's Poker Party, hosted by Art Fein. Living across the street from Rosie Flores in Echo Park led to many fun rooftop jam sessions, with Dave Stuckey, Randy Weeks, Russell Scott, James Intveld, Jeff Ross, and many others joining in the fun. Rosie and Dee established a great connection, with Rosie producing Dee's first 7" record, Lasso Your Heart.

Picture of Dee Iloki Records released Lasso Your Heart, which features "$3.00 Left" - Which can be heard in a Nicolas Cage movie called "Deadfall." Dee moved back to SF, and Iloki released a 10" record called Honky Tonk Nighttime Gal, featuring the amazing Russell Scott, James Intveld and DJ Bonebrake (X), among others. While in San Francisco again, Dee appeared at the Greaseball, and many other terrific rockabilly and roots clubs.

Dee relocated to Austin, Texas in 1999. Playing with The Horton Brothers, Marti Brom, and High Noon, she established herself as part of the famous Austin Live Music community. Her guest spot with the Cornell Hurd Band led to her inclusion on their live album, and she also recorded local songwriter extraordinaire Teri Joyce's song "Hey There Honey Bear" for the Bear Family 25th anniversary CD.

Dee Lannon has toured Europe (one of the headliners at the 2002 Rockabilly Rave) and Japan and all over the US, and in 2003, will tour Norway, Brazil (with the wonderful Crazy Legs Rockabilly Trio) and Japan for the fourth time. Stay tuned for more exciting news!
