Can you tell what's going on with the horses in these pictures?

2 year old filly

I raised this filly from weanling to healthy 2-year-old. She remained monumentally uninterested in anything I had to say to her, as illustrated above, and I found her a good home with some people who valued her famous bloodlines.

7 year old gelding

This horse wanted to walk past me. He chose to keep an ear on me, indicating his awareness of my presence. He took the track he wanted, but his posture, his head at a medium height, says "I'm listening in case you want me to do something different."

5 year old mare

This mare was quite concerned about the noises behind her, so much so that three of us couldn't get her to look straight ahead. Luckily for us, she wasn't quite ready for flight. However, this would not have been the right time to ask her for a sidepass, or a canter pirhouette!

22 year old gelding

This one's kind of a trick question. This guy was just let out of his run and is on his way, very happily, to his pasture. He is paying no attention whatsoever to me, and I haven't asked him for anything; I just stood off to the side as he passed by to take his picture. He's focused on the open pasture gate in front of him and his two mares already contentedly grazing. However, this is also a great chance to work on leadership issues while you lead your horse to the pasture - don't just release him and let him ignore you if he already ignores you too often.

Listen first, whisper later...
