Once upon a time a horse lived at a boarding barn. Her owner never came to see her. She accepted haltering and leading, but
no one at the barn knew anything else about her. One day when the owner of the barn was making the rounds, feeding, she noticed
that the mare was cut and bleeding. The horse was standing and moving normally, but had quite a long gash on one hind leg.
You already know where this is going. The mare so strenuously resisted being handled that no first aid could be given. All
the concerned folks could do was to turn the hose on her leg - and during that process, she dashed around in a circle as fast
as she could to try to get away from the water. The absentee owner (who eventually stopped paying board and foreited the horse)
compounded the problem. The laceration healed, although it left quite a scar. However, if she had sustained a puncture, or
damaged a joint capsule, the outcome might have been quite different.
