Welcome to Non-Violent Horse Handling

This site is about dealing with horses: horse-handling, riding, enjoying your horse safely. I'll give a bit of background on how I got involved in "training," and my own particular point of view on what horses are all about. I'll make some suggestions on how to improve your partnership with your own horse; the result of years of experience, experimenting, and clinic-ing with a variety of trainers.

If it sounds "new-age-y" -- it isn't. These are the same principles used by the ancient Greeks, and many other mounted civilizations before even them. And there are many people who practice these ideas without being able to explain them.

Nothing is more frustrating to me than a sentence that starts "You just...." as if everything were easy. My response when I hear this is, "But how???"

When I realized that I needed help with my first horse, I found I needed help in (1) recognizing square one and (2) in breaking lessons down in a way my horse could understand. And I've met plenty of people for whom that is also true.

Nothing I've ever done has been more satisfying than helping someone reach a new level of partnership with their horse. If you're interested in how this might be done, read on.
