Tole and Decorative Painting
| Tole and decorative painting/style was developed over the centuries by itinerant painters going from home to home and decorating the walls and furniture with paint in return for their lodging. Russian style developed by certain artisans to produce items for sale in the cities. Folk art in general takes the styles of the country folks in decorating their homes and furniture in their own individual manner. Russian Plate - Iris and Tulips in the style of Russian Zhostovo painters. This design was created by Slava Letkov. It is painted on a 14" beaded wooden plate. Multi-loaded Brush floral -This is a German folk art style, called Bauernmalerei and was painted on a wall plaque. Design can be applied on any flat surface Rosemaling - This is a Norwegian design with a burgundy border. The examples shown below showcase the various surfaces that these designs can be painted on.
