about the artist...

I love art for art’s sake. I don’t need to see an artist’s degree or read a thesaurus-driven artist’s statement for me to enjoy the art. I may enjoy the art, I may not, but that’s the beauty of it: there’s an infinite number of art forms and mediums out there, so there is something for everyone. I feel the same about my work; you may like it, you may not. If I get a reaction from someone, good or bad, it makes me happy; I know I’m on the right track. I also know there is always room for improvement and I strive for that, based on viewers reactions. My love of nature, antiquities, and surrealism is what draws me to shadowbox and assemblage art. I also get a strong sense of accomplishment and completeness from assemblage art – something I don’t get from music and other art forms. I often have something to say with my art, but sometimes I just enjoy making a whimsical or aesthetic piece so viewers can draw from it what they will. Among my many inspirations are the works of Wolfgang Grasse, Joseph Cornell, and Andy Goldsworthy. |
