A John Deere Model T06068TFM has been chosen for the main engine. It is configured with a 105 amp alternator for charging the engine start battery bank. To this was added a 210 amp high output Balmar alternator to charge the 1000 Ah house battery bank. The engine is rated to deliver at a continuous duty cycle of 175 hp @ 2200 rpm. The gear is from Hurth with a 3 to 1 reduction. The wheel is a 30 inch Michigan Dyna Jet.

The forward bulkhead of the engine room is home for a great deal of the wiring and piping. Starting with the wiring, The battery switches allow the transfer of electricity from the house battery bank to start the engine, or we can use the engine battery bank to supply house needs. The battery switch to the far left is the isolation switch for the 3000 watt Heart inverter. The black box contains regulation for the second high capacity alternator. The two blue boxes cover terminal blocks.

The engine raw water can enter through either of two through hull fittings each of which has its own filter. This system is valved so that water can be supplied to the engine through one or the other thus allowing the filters to be serviced while the engine is running.

As the main engine is turbo charged no water is introduced to the exhaust until after the riser reaches the deck. After which the exhaust slopes down to exit the vessel.

The fuel also comes through two filters in much the same way as the water system. Fuel may be consumed from the port or starboard tanks, or from both tanks at the same time. Again this allows the changing of the filters while the engine is running should that be necessary.

The gen set (Northern Lights 8 kw: configured for 220 v output) is located in the port aft wing of the engine room. In the starboard aft wing is the hot water tank. The engine room is completely isolated from the rest of the vessel with full water tight bulkheads for and aft. Access to the engine room is via deck hatch.
