Leucaena and AgroResidues are the key to successful development of Ecodevelopment in the tropics and temperate zones. The Leucaena Production Society is the leader in tropical Leucaena production for livestock feed and other uses. Leucaena Seeds are available now.

Licensee/ producers are sought in tropical and mountain countries to grow Cold Tolerant "LPS Certified Leucaena Seeds". "The licensee is given criteria and guidelines to follow for growing special Cold Tolerant Leucaena by the Leucaena Production Society, developer and sponsor of the program," according to Dr. Carol Cross, Director of LPS.
The licensee will obtain from LPS a complete turnkey kit for growing the Cold Tolerant Leucaena seeds. The licensee grows Leucaena on his land, reaps the seeds and ships them to LPS on a buy-back arrangement. Seeds and project guidelines for growing the seeds are included in the turnkey kit.

Other services include access to information resources for the production of livestock feed, fuel briquettes, fertilizer, building materials and biomass fuels from Leucaena with agricultural residues. Licensees will be invited to a special networking room at the Mountain Leucaena Symposium in August 2005 in La Esperanza, Honduras. The symposium will include a special one day workshop on Leucaena seed production for Licensees.

The family can develop the plan together and work together for the planting and other labor divisions of the project. It is ideal for a family who has ambitions to create a Leucaena based project and want to get started developing their own seed orchard. The purpose of creating and building a business is to make money, earn a profit and grow. The purpose of creating and building your business as LPS Certified Leucaena Seed Producers is also to ensure that whatever growth takes place in your country is sustainable and ecologically sound.
If you do not choose to build a sustainable business like becoming a LPS Certified Leucaena Seed Producer, or owning a Leucaena Based project, you leave the development of your country's resources in the hands of those who may not care as much as you do about the environment.
YOU GIVE UP YOUR POWER TO DIRECT YOUR COUNTRY TOWARD SUSTAINABILITY BY ALLOWING THE DEVELOPMENT DECISIONS TO BE MADE BY THOSE WHO DO NOT PRODUCE IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY.
"By growing Leucaena as an LPS Certified Leucaena Seed Producer, the landowner gains foreign exchange, and in addition, produces his own 20%+ protein livestock feed, develops his land, increases productivity and provides for the development of both small scale and large scale business," notes Dr. Cross. The licensee receives step by step guidelines on how to prepare his land, how to plant, how to cultivate, how to harvest, how to treat the seeds, how to package and how to ship them to LPS.
The step by step guidelines of this Turnkey program is ideal for tropical entrepreneurs with a little land, but not enough resources to begin with a Project. By beginning in this program, the Licensee masters the art of Leucaena seed production, develops cash flow and gains the skills he will need when he put together a 1000 acre Leucaena planting for an Leucaena Based Ecoindustrial Project.

Since he operates on a guaranteed market basis with a Buy-Back Agreement that comes with the program, he does not have to concern himself with marketing. In addition to growing the plants for seed, support will be given to LPS Certified Leucaena Seed Producers who wish to develop low tech livestock feed projects using Leucaena.
The licensees have access to LPS's computer ration balancing programs, as well as all needed premixes, trace minerals, concentrates and other additives as part of the licensing agreement. In addition, the licensee has continued access to technical assistance and new livestock feed formulations.
In order to become an LPS Certified Leucaena Seed
Producer, the in-country businessman or landowner purchases a
Certified Producers Seed Production Kit which costs US$4500. This
will include enough Leucaena seeds to plant 5 hectares of Cold
Tolerant Leucaena Seeds as well as complete technical assistance
and support for producing the seeds.
"Leucaena is a tropical plant with many industrial uses already. It's a unique opportunity to take advantage of the environmental movement. Leucaena's major constraint has been the lack of cold tolerant cultivars which up to now prevented its used in tropical highlands. Since tropical highlands are at most risk from erosion and environmental degradation, a Leucaena cultivar that grow in these environments will be invaluable. By working with this cold tolerant Leucaena, you can be an environmental entrepreneur. and at the same time develop your country's agroindustrial base," says Dr. Cross.
