Description

Small species (typically 23 mm - 26 mm). Dorsal coloration is yellow with a green reticulation. Iris coloration is gold at times with small dark pigments scattered throughout. Extensive webbing between fingers III-IV. Venter and parietal peritoneum transparent. Organs covered in white lining.

Distribution

Costa Rica, Panamá, Colombia and Ecuador.

Habitat & Ecology

Nocturnal, riparian (found in the vegetation above and near streams).

Reproduction

This small species reproduces along the vegetation overhanging streams. The males can be found guarding eggs 24 hours a day. Males are very specific to a chosen territory, often being a large smoothed leaf such as a palm or Heliconia. The eggs are typically deposited below the leaves, directly overhanging the water below. Males can often be found guarding several egg masses on the same leaf. The advertisement call of this species is a short soft high pitched whistle.

Conservation

Status: Not Listed, but habitat destruction threatens amphibians worldwide.
