Taylor, 1949
  • Class: Amphibia
  • Order: Anura
  • Family: Centrolenidae
  • Group: Spinosa

Description

Small species (Typically 25mm-29mm). Dorsal coloration is green, with yellow or sometimes white spots scattered throughout the dorsum. Iris is gold-silver with black reticulation. Extensive webbing between fingers III-IV. Venter partially covered in white parietal peritoneum, thus allowing the view of organs only in the lower abdomen. Organs lacking white lining.

Distribution

Honduras, Nicaragua (??), Costa Rica, Panamá and Colombia.

Habitat & Ecology

This centrolenid is nocturnal and riparian (found in the vegetation above and near streams).

Reproduction

This species reproduces along streams. The males typically call from the tops of leaves near and above the stream. Dark colored eggs are attached to the vegetation overhanging the moving water. The advertisement call is very similar to H. pulveratum, consisting of typically only a single note, that of a high pitched "tick", but at times several "ticks" are produced.

Conservation

Status: Not Listed, but habitat destruction threatens amphibians worldwide.
