Calcutta's:  Why not enter our famous Calcutta in Red Dear or Vancouver.  2 Day tournaments with lots of excitement and great bridge.  In 1999 we had players from all over the United States and Canada vying for top honors, and you know what that means.  Take advantage of our package discounts for hotel accommodations too !!  

Red Deer July 21-23,2000:   This years auction will begin at 7PM on Friday July 21st and the play will begin on Sat July 22 at 23 at 1 PM  and 10 AM on Sunday July 23.

AUCTION FOR BOTH EVENTS IS FRIDAY JULY 21nd 8:30

PLACE: RED DEER CURLING CLUB 43rd STREET and 47th AVENUE 
( 1 block east of Red Deer Lodge)

ENTRY FEE: FLIGHT A $300 -- $50 to final session awards PER PAIR
                        FLIGHT B $150

EVENT: 4 SESSION IMP PAIRS IN WHICH EACH PAIR WILL PLAY AGAINST EVERY OTHER PAIR. SCORING IS BASED ON IMPS--top and bottom scores taken out.

SIZE OF FIELD: 20/24/28/32- TO A MAXIMUM OF 40 PAIRS IN EACH EVENT. SOME CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO OTHER SIZES IF WARRANTED

PRIZES: THE 4 PRIZE POOLS (2 calcutta and 2 players pool) WILL BE TOTALLY INDEPENDENT

NOTE: ANY CONVENTIONS DEEMED TO BE DESTRUCTIVE WILL BE BARRED
Also any conventions that are deemed to place the opponents at an unfair disadvantage (lack of time to plan defenses) will be barred.
ALL CONVENTION CARDS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE HEAD DIRECTOR BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF PLAY.

CONDITIONS OF AUCTION

1. Payments of successful bids must be paid by cash. NO cheques without prior authorization. Attempts will be made to accept Visa or Mastercard, but there will be a 5% surcharge on credit cards.
2. In the event of default of payment, the pair will be re-auctioned.
3. All pairs must be declared before the Auction begins. No substitutes will be allowed. Ownership of pairs must be declared prior to commencement of play.
4. Anyone, including players, can own a percentage interest in any other pair and may purchase as many pairs as they wish.
5. Each pair must start the auction on themselves at a value equal to their entry fee. Each pair is entitled to buy back up to 50% of themselves from the original buyer at cost. There is no restriction on the resale of any interest after the original purchase, except that….
6. Each pair is obligated to purchase the either 50% of themselves back or the value of their entry, WHICHEVER IS LESS. Therefore no pair is obligated to spend more than their entry amount equivalent in the Auction Pool. This condition is for the benefit of those people bidding on other pairs.

CONDITIONS OF CONTEST

1. The event will take place on Saturday July 22rd at 1:30 PM and Sunday July 23th at 10:30 AM. The Sunday time may change at the Directors discression.
2. Each pair will play approximately 110 boards against each other pair in the field.
3. Replacement of a pair will not be allowed. Emergency substitutions will be handled by the Director and made from a list of approved substitutes.
4. In Flight "B" no either/or bids will be allowed except versus a Strong Club. No NT range below 11 HCP. The ACBL Rules and Regulations will apply, except those related to gambling or master points. All systems must be approved by the Director in advance. No tolerance will be given to any breaches of this condition.
5. Any collaboration between 2 or more pairs will result in their disqualification from this event. Monitors may be used throughout the event.
6. Screens and Bidding Boxes will be provided and must be used by all players.
7. ALL DIRECTOR RULINGS WILL BE FINAL WITH 2 EXCEPTIONS. (A) The facts are at issue, (B) It involves ethics. These will be dealt with by a Standing Committee of players in the event to be determined by the Event Organizer.
8. IMP SCORING will be used. Score (plus or minus) on each board will be calculated from the mean score of that board. The mean score will be derived by averaging the results achieved and rounding off to the nearest 10 points. In order to minimize the impact of large swings, the highest score each direction will be disregarded in the computer mean score. This may be increased if numbers warrant.
