What Is Law Enforcement Exploring?
Law Enforcement
Exploring is for teenagers from the ages of 14 to 21. It is
a way for young men and women who are interested in
law enforcement to get a hands on look at what being a law enforcement officer
is all about. Most people don't start their career until the day they start
work. By the time Explorers are ready to begin their careers, they know
what field they're going into-whether it's municipal or government work. When
the Explorers enter their career field they already have their co-workers
beat.
What Do The
Explorers Do?
Explorers learn the facts behind the laws,
from those who know the law. Facts on murder, robbery, and other major and minor
crimes. They're in on the chief methods of crime detection--from fingerprinting
to canine units.
They also observe police communication centers and security
systems. Working with the dispatchers at the Police Department is required
before any Explorer can enter the Ride-Along Program. While they're working with
other dispatchers they learn what is going on such as how the NCIC and TCIC
systems work.
They also look into areas such as narcotics laws, juvenile
laws, traffic and crowd control, first aid, self-defense, and CPR. These are
some of the many areas of law enforcement that the Explorers learn about.
