All
of my images are printed on Mohawk
acid-free, 100% recycled papers, which
are manufactured with process chlorine-free
100% post-consumer recycled fiber.
Mohawk
was one of the first large-scale produciton facilities in the U.S. to use renewable, non-polluting, wind-generated
energy for manufacturing. the amount originally purchased was the output of one windmill (4 million kilowatat hours)--enought
ot produce 600 semi-loads of paper per year.
Today
usage of this energy has increased more than 10-fold, to 45 million kwh, 38% of Mohawk's total electric energy consumption.
The emission reduction benefits of this power are equal to 138 million miles NOT driven by passenger cars in one year, or
planting a 24,400-acre forest.
In addition to supporting renewable energy,
Mohawk commits significant resources to minimize harmful emissions from their mills: state-of-the-art steam plants have been
installed to reduce air pollutants, and air emissions have been capped at a level that will remain set regardless of production
increases.
In
2007, Mohawk received the EPA’s “Green Power Partner of the Year” award and joined the U.S. EPA Climate
Leaders program by agreeing to voluntary emissions reductions. They began offering products made carbon neutral. In addition
to purchasing enough Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to match 100% of the electricity they use, the thermal energy they
use is offset with Verified Emissions Reduction credits (VERs.)
