Kingman Sculpture
5 of 25
Day seven, we made it all the way to Kingman (about 30 miles). An early climb and harsh desert winds shortened the day, and I was nursing a sore left achilles. Anyway, as we entered Kingman, we spied this magnificent welded/painted iron sculpture on a trailer in the parking lot of a hamburger joint. Turns out the hamburger joint's defunct, and been rented by the artist and his son as a base of operations. They travel around with this thing, doing installations and other things. The theme of the sculpture, created to mark the new millennium, is the evolution and degradation of the earth as human culture took root and flourished. The degradation of the culture is, I'm told, also represented.
