| Comments: | I would like to request a fix for Nascar Racing 2 to work
with XP if possible. I will include a post to another site asking for
help. That site is where I found your page. My husband LOVES this game and
I installed XP which fouled it. I have tried several of the things in the
library article and so far have had no luck. I am currently defragging,
have already done a clean up, have tried multiple installs, and removals,
shut down all programs that are not necessary and done a clean install
from what I know of how to do one with XP. Nothing works so far. I have
had trouble with this game before even in 98, but this is by far the
worst, and I just cannot figure it out. It worked best with 95. Now for
what I posted to another help site it went as follows: I think this is an XP issue, but am not sure. I have had to intall XP on my husbands computer which previously ran on Windows 98. I cannot get the game to install properly now or something. I have used the Sound Blaster sound card settings before and that worked. The sound test does work. What happens is that the game seems to install properly. but when I click on the icon to start the game where you usually click on A and then it plays it will not start. The screen goes black like it use to but all I get now is a blinking white square and then it goes back to the normal windows desktop. At one point it did do all of the wording like it was going to start but then stopped. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I would try to do a clean boot install, but cannot figure out how to do that with XP. That helped with issues with 98. When testing before installation the computer passes in all categories. Can you please suggest a fix for this problem? I husband LOVES to play this game, and I am heartbroken that he cannot now. I have Direct X 8.1, 256 RAM, Pentium III Processor 596 MHZ. & Another Request I recently upgraded my husbands computer to run on XP and cannot get his Nascar Racing 2 to work at all. I can get it to look like it installs, do the sound set up which works, and get as far as typing a to start the game and then it fails to launch. I have tried running compatibility wizard and that does not help. I have gone into properties and changed it to run on every option available in that section and it still will not launch. Does anyone have any idea on this. I have spent hours trying to find some help and am in great hopes that this is the place. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have done multiple remove and installs, and nothing is working! My screen resolution is set for 16 bit 600x 800. I have an IBM computer, and monitor. Both are a little over 4 years old. Thanks so much for any help you can give me with this. I hope your medical problems are better. I read where you were having a problem. Good luck and thanks again. I love your site! Very imformative.

| Comments: | I just "discovered" your site (courtesy of Gameboomers),
& we seem to have the same tastes in gaming ( it heartens me to see
the Inscape titles & Harlan's "Scream"!). Have you been able to
install "Ark of Time"? I haven't been able to install it since I upgraded
my 96 Compaq Presario (Windows 95) to an HP Pavillion (WinME) in 2000. I
looked about on the 'net at that time (game posts, Microsoft,
Compaq/HP/Dell sites), but no luck. I've since upgraded (every 4
years-like our gov't leaders) to a Dell XPS Gen 4 WindowsXP Home(SP2),
Intel Pentium 4 @3.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB hard (42GB free), Soundblaster
Audigy 2ZS, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (256 MB RAM), DVD-ROM(16x), HP CD-Writer
Plus. It still doesn't install. "VESA not supported" is the message. Since
I'm a fumbler/fiddler (thank whomever for full restore-format version!),
I've occasionally stumbled onto a fix that works (quite accidentally). You
seem to be a bit more driven (read: expert), so I seek your counsel. I'm
currently busy playing the games I bought that initiated the upgrade, but
will eventually attempt to replay my older ones, so I'll use your site as
a guide(I don't surf-no patience). I haven't had the time to completely
peruse your site yet (tempus fugit), so forgive my ignorance. I allude to
titles not (yet?) in your listing. Have you plans to include?: Ark of Time 9 (updated CD for WinME from manuf) Bioscopia Black Dahlia Cameron Files: Pharoah's Curse Celtica Chemicus Daedalus Encounter Drowned God Egypt 2: Heliopolis Mystery of the Druids Nightlong Normality Return to Ringworld Santa Fe Mysteries: Elk Moon and/or Sacred Ground Seven Games of the Soul DEVO's Adventure's of the Smart Patrol Space Bar the Space Quest series (IV - VI) Starship Titanic Zork Grand Inquisitor I sincerely hope you will be as victorious in your struggle, as you have in the virtual world. May the sun be at your back, and your path be clear!

| Comments: | Dear Inferno, I wish you the best with your medical issues. I’m about to send massive amounts of praise your way, and I want you to know that it is sincere, regardless of the fact that when you get to feeling better I have intentions of finding your weak spot and trying to bribe you into helping me figure out how to get a game to work. ;-) I’m sending good thoughts your way. I’ve only recently found your site through Gameboomers and you’ve helped me immensely already. While my health problems are different from yours, I’m grateful that I’m able to take my mind off of things sometimes with games, and I’m also grateful to have people who work so hard to provide help with being able to play games. When I was recently able to purchase several games, my first stop after the Gameboomers reviews was to your site to see if the games would work, if I didn’t see something, I decided to wait on the game. You’ve introduced me to other sites that have enhanced my computer skills, allowing me to help my friends (with their computers) for helping me so much. Payback is a good thing. J I wish you the best, and want you to know that, for lack of better words, you rock. Hugs, Cowgirl | ||

| Comments: | sorry to read you have been unwell if when you have time you
could send the 2 patches it would bring joy to wife it was one of her
favourite games before she became unwell. The Patches, you'll need two. "Ripper1.05" which you can find many places on the net. and "Ripper1.03" which is more difficult to come by. For XP to be totally free from any crashes, you'll need them both. "103" addresses certain bug issues such as a scrunched video and the like, and "105" was designed to be an addition to it (fixes the WAC device so you can use the notepad and read the encrypted journal) NOTE* If your having difficulty locating the Ripper1.03 patch leave a message in my guest book and I'll gladly send it to you.

| Comments: | Hi Inferno, I found your website while searching for answers to a Zork Nemesis dilemma. Years ago I bought ZM at one of those huge computer flea market shows. At the time I had a 486 upgraded to a pentium but I had insufficient RAM to run the game so I stored it away. A few years ago I bought a laptop w WinXP and recently tried ZN again. Well... every thing was going along relatively fine (except for that cd changing problem you mentioned)and I really got into the game until 7/9ths (point-wise)through the game (I was on the last of the 4 metals (iron, in my case)when the game 'experienced a problem and had to shut down'! For days I tried everything I could think of to get around it including doing the metals over in a different sequence, and still it shut down every time I tried to enter Kaine's Lab from the elevator. Do you know of anyone else who has had this problem? I went to the Activision support site and all they had to say (after looking at my system info including the results of running the DX diag tests) was that "the game was made way before Win XP and they could not guarantee it running properly." I am frustrated after spending so much time on the game and not getting to finish. Have you heard of anybody having this problem before? I just found your site and read most of your General Drill (I defrag regularly and 'Check disk' etc just to try to keep the speed up)Do you think any of those patches you mentioned would help? Any other ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. Also I see that you instruct people NOT to download the Direct X from the ZN disc and I did. Did I screw something up on my computer by doing so? Thanks so much for your incredible website, Cimaruta | ||

| Comments: | I would just like to thank you for your (and others) hard work. Years ago I bought a lot of games (mostly Sierra and Virgin) with the intention of playing them "when I had time". Little did I know that XP would be a disaster on these games. Your web site has made almost all games possible again -- still trying to figure out the sound for the .avi on 11th hour!, haven't tried to load Phantasmagoria (sp) yet; but all the rest seem to work...thank you, thank you. Now, here is one request...Hodj 'n' Podj...dorky but I love the puzzles; the board game is okay. Once again, thank you, for an incredible web site; so many games I can once again play. | ||

I play Phantasmagoria 1 and will play Phant2 and other like games (GK series, Shivers, Police quests *all good games from Sierra obviously*). My problem is when i get to chapter 5 (CD 5) when i go back to the conservatory and click on an item to interact with it, error message pop saying ''Ntvdm.exe has encounter a problem and the program will shut down....'' If you have any suggestions I am really desperate! I seemed to try everything from your site (general drill) and searched the web for that error in particular but i can't make it to work! Now I'm affraid when I install my other old games I will play them several hours just to find out it bugged near the end...(what a waste of time) Thank you very much for any suggestions and I wish the best for your health! Take care, Sebastien.

| Comments: | Hello, I've been trying to get Zeus: Master of Olypmus working on xp. It seems to install o.k. but will not run (sometimes the cd drive runs then stops but nothing beyond that). I'm in admin mode. I've tried changing compatabilties in all the exe files & sub-files. The compat wizard does nothing either. Sometimes I get an error message that says something about win32 error. It hasn't come back up so I can't remember the exact error message. My system is more than sufficient to operate the game (according to the game's system requirements). I love the game so this has become a quest for me. I can't find a newer version of the game that lists xp, and I don't want to install & run windows 98 paralell to xp just for that game. Please help. Thanks, Ian | ||

| Comments: | Greetings! I stop in to your site from time to time and have been helped a couple times from the information I found. For some backwards compatibility I utilize VMWare, and PC Emulation software (similar to Virtual PC by Microsoft), but have found that the video card / DirectX support is lacking for many games. I have inquired to them about making a better video card emulation and improving DirectX support (Direct Draw mainly supported at this time) so gamers could use their software for backwards compatibility. I got a somewhat snotty response (I felt), but I was going to recommend that more of the people that view your site might contact them as well, and cause a ground-swell of individuals asking for this compatibility. It could cause them to give gamers a more serious consideration. Then you can just install them under that actual OS it a particular game was made for, and should have far fewer issues. Let me know what you think. Take care! Rob Bamford (AKA Robbie-SDA) | ||

from my favorites. I owe you Ms Inferno. You're awesome. Now, what about
Pandora Directive or Killing Moon or Overseer. WOuld love one of my Tex
Murphy's again. I'm one of those old dogs learning new tricks and i need
lots of help. I also read with interest the info on your thyroid problems. I'm the reverse.........totally nonfunctioning thanks to iodine and synthroid. I take 300mg of Armour thyroid daily in divided doses. Rather a lot for a short Irish lady but it works. Don't be surprized if after your treatments to reduce the activity of your gland you have to take a supplement. Endocrinology is a baby discipline compared to many and we're part of the guinea pig population. Oh well. I'm a nurse and i keep up as best i can. I've been trying to get Atlantis to work after buying a copy on Ebay. Initially, it didn't like the onboard graphic chip (Intel)on XP computer, so I took the computer to a tech, and he downloaded a patch to get it working. I wish I knew of your site then! But now I can't get the second CD to work. I've found that you have a patch uploaded to get around this, but I can't manage to get the site opened. The patch I'm trying to d/l is: AT1SAVE.EXE When you're feeling up to it, could you email this patch? I'd really appreciate it as I'm desperate to finish the game. All the very best and thanks, again, for this wonderful site. :) Wendy Peterson

| Comments: | Hope that u r ok, hope that your radiation therapy is going
well. I wondered if i could ask a small favour..., i originally visited
your site after searching for a way to make my copy of the 7th guest run
on that bloody thing they call XP. (Personally i don't see why we couldn't
have stuck with good old DOS. LOL) But now i am having trouble running the 11th hour. I am so stuck, i have seen many a msg board where other ppl have added that 11th guest works fine on xp for them. Any ideas what may be stopping me from finding success? Your helpful advice would be much appreciated.

zork nemesis on XP however, I can't get past the install screen where I
get a message saying "system file not suitable for running MS_DOS and
Microsoft Windows applications" Loved this game and would like to play it again. Any suggestions would be most welcome Many thanks

| Comments: | I was just wondering if you might know what might be causing
my problem with the pc game darkfall and windows xp when i go under the
stairs and push the brick in the wall, then there is a red, blue, green
thing in the air i click on and before it does anything else the game
shuts down and gives me the error message the macromedia projector is not
working properly. When i check out the error message it just says that
windows and macromedia have not yet found a solution for this problem. Can
you please help me?? Thank you for your time.

| Comments: | nospam_ Hello, I cannot get Arthurs Knights(tales of chivalry) to run on win-xp.Have you had any experiences with this game? I tried the compatability mode but I never have success with that. An odd thing is that the game does not ask for the 3 disks when I go to install. However when I go to play it ,it asks for the other 2 disks.I then pick a player slot(#1) and it tries to start, then crashes. Thanks,George | ||

| Comments: | Dear sir, Thank you for providing the net with a set up guide for the seventh guest. I currrently have a problem, however. I am unable to download the files t7gpatch.zip and t7gf3a.zip from the file library for some unknown reason. Forgive me for troubling you over this, but I was wondering if you could send a copy of said files. Sincerely, Jonesy | ||
