My computer configuration is as follows:
Processor: AMD Athlon Processor, 3DNow, 1400MHz
Direct X Version: 8.1
Memory: 256MB RAM
OS: Windows XP Home Edition 5.1, Build 2600 with Service Pack 1
Display/Videocard: ATI Radeon 7500 series with 64MB memory (Driver: ati2dvag.dll 6.14.01.6292)
Current Display Settings: 1024X768 32 bit, 90 Hz
Soundcard: VIA AC '97 Audio. (Driver: viaudio.sys 5.12.01.3820)
My sound acceleration and hardware acceleration are both set to one from the right as suggested by Inferno.
To begin with, follow Inferno's instructions for the General Drill. I have disk clean-up and defragmentation scheduled weekly, so I don't usually have to do this before installing a game.
Put the Reah CD into your CDROM drive. Click Start, Run, and type in the letter of your CDROM drive plus a colon. (example D: ) This will bring up the CD contents. Right click on the Set-up.exe file and click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab.
In Compatibility choose the following:
Under "Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For" : Check Windows 95
Under "Display Properties": Check Disable Visual Themes
Under "Input Settings": Check Turn off advanced text services for this program.
Click Apply , Click OK and exit this window.
Double-click on Set-up.exe and install the game. After the game is installed, open the folder in which you installed the game and RIGHT-CLICK on the Reah.exe file. Click Properties then click the Compatibility tab.
Again, choose the same settings as you applied to setup.exe.
Click Apply, and exit this window.
Now, you need to change your monitor settings (unless you are already playing on 640X480). Right-click on your desktop and choose Properties from the menu. Click on the settings tab, then click the Advanced button near the bottom. A new window appears. Choose Adapter and then click the button that says List All Modes. On the list, highlight 640X480, High Color (16 bit), 75 Hertz. Click Ok, then click Apply. Approve these settings if your computer asks you to do so.
You should now be ready to play REAH!! Enjoy!
Note: If the game runs "funny" or graphics are difficult to see...it may be your acceleration. For most older games I run my Videocard acceleration and Sound card acceleration ONE space from the far right of the bar. This was the case for Reah, as well. But different sound/videocards need different "tweaking". If you need to change your video/sound acceleration do the following:
Video Acceleration: Right-click on your desktop and choose Properties from the menu. Click on the settings tab, then click the Advanced button near the bottom of the window. A new window appears. Choose Troubleshoot and move the arrow one click to the left. You may have to do this more than once if you are having lots of difficulty with the appearance of the game.
You should not have to adjust your soundcard, but if you do just go to the DirectX diagnostic menu and click on sound.
