General George S. Patton trained troops for Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa, in the Blythe area during the early
months of World War II. He was here before he gained worldwide fame in Europe and Africa. His personal bunker was rediscovered
in June 2007. How is one sure it's actually Patton's? Well, his name is stenciled on it. The bunker has been partially
destroyed. Most of it is underground, and it's about half filled with rocks and soil. Please click on any of the images to

Below is what is obviously a petroglyph of recent origin. It's so well executed, however, I feel it's earned a place on this
website. In fact, considering the handicaps the artist worked with, I think it's a genuine work of art. What do you think?

Early Native Americans weren't the only people who found the rocks in this area irresistible places for leaving brief messages
for posterity or perhaps only a name and when they journeyed through the desert. Many of European descent also left a record
of their passing for those in coming centuries to observe and wonder of the stories behind their creation.
