The crop is the delicate and beautiful flowering oilseed rape - (canola). The scalloped edges indicate clearly to me that this Gift was generated by our CircleMakers, and no one else   :-)
Each 'character-waveform' in the Pattern has its own 'upper and lower wave' (scallop), one slightly offset from the other. If you have lay shots of the areas *between* the 'standing waveforms', especially of two particular areas as noted below, I'd very much appreciate a copy of it to upload here. I'd be happy to swap photos ...
CircleResearcher cum propellerhead AJ Samuels sent this from Bristol, UK:
"Attached is a picture taken from tonight's local TV news of the new West Kennett formation which arrived yesterday (May 4 '98). I've also made an MPEG video* which can be downloaded, about 30sec long/400KB. Cheers! AJ"
*NB! The video will be removed from the website shortly because of its size, so if you want to download it, AJ suggests you do it sooner rather than later!
A huge THANKYOU, AJ! The Formation's barely been in the field 36 hours, and here it is, for the world to enjoy! I regret I'm not able to credit this photo yet, but I'll try to discover the fotog's name and will get it up as soon as I do.

UPDATE: May 11The first report I received about this CropCircle was from Formation visitor Colin Slack, but due to technical glitches at both ends, I did not recognize its significance. Thanks so very much, Colin, for your determined persistence!   :-)
Colin shared the experience of his visit to this Formation in a post (excerpted here):
"The agriform (?) is a real eye-catcher with [a] certain rightness of being ... I didn't notice the "clock hand" at all although it's clear on the photo. People 'going to the centre' will create 'new-bits', the clock hand being the first, before enthusiasts can measure and observe for the crop circle archive what is actually there. A few people were tuning into 'the energies' ... a man was drumming, a girl had a gigantic quartz crystal (is she still on the planet?); children, friends of hers, were clutching bright posies of rape flowers and Merlin (cloak with lion brooches, a staff [did it have an owl head?], a basin-cap, small beard paced down the tramline, stopping near us, to say "same size as the top of Silbury Hill." Colin adds, "Prankster stuff crop circles: disbelieve and lose the [privilege] of being there, believe and be ridiculed; but you know it's an appearance ... well it's Good News."And thanks also to all of you who've sent in ideas as to what this Formation represents to you -- your first impressions cover quite a gamut! Suggestions include a "radiant sun", "a man's electric shaver", "flames", acknowledgment of the "master number 33", and a sense that the 33 "lines" were "connecting the inner and outer Circles". One of you enjoyed it as a " 'winner' of a wreath", another queried as to possible Masonic implications, while someone noted its arrival as possibly tied in with the Day of the Dead. Most of the respondees found it "Beautiful!". Two men, however, expressed their scepticism.
One gal (who was instrumental in helping us obtain the only aerial photos we have of last year's Marion, NY Formation) reports, "I nearly jumped out of my chair when I looked at the photograph!". She explains, "I've just come back from Istanbul - ancient Constantinople. I went to a mosaic museum and looked at a restored, huge Byzantine floor mosaic, at one time maybe over 100 feet long. An artist pointed out to me the border running around the whole thing. The mosaic pattern was done in such a way, similar to the crop circle pattern, that it looked three-dimensional, like a wave pattern." We may be able to get a photo of this up and see what Barbara saw...

UPDATE, May 11: Readers' contributions
Arlene wonders, "Might the Formation be "a representation of the Sumerian symbol for 3,600, which according to Sitchin represents a 'completed cycle', a 'perfect circle'? An epithet for the planet shar or supreme ruler. A harbinger of the return of the Twelfth Planet." The writer adds, "Not to mention of course the tie-in with the discovery last week of the new bright 'comet' COMET C/1998 J1, 8 degrees from the sun which has a 3,600 year orbit ... Glyph is a perfect circle, resembling on one level a bright sun."
Carol is brand-new to CropCircles, and the WKennet Formation is the first she's seen. (Welcome aboard, Carol! :-) She shares her impressions with us on her own webpage.
Dave offers a more technically-oriented appraisal. [NB: ilyes is still not sure that the 'pointer' was part of the Formation as Transmitted -- those lines may simply be the result of someone's having walked into the standing crop.] Dave suggests:
"a) It could represent a skewed magnetic field, where the inside circle is the 'driver' spinning element and the outside circle is in attraction mode trying to catch up with it. The curved lines between the inner and outer circles could represent the magnetic lines of force!"b) The 'nozzle'-shaped symbol drawn from the center towards the inside circle radius, may be a magnetic field source to excite the 'windings' on the 'turbine wound' stator field coils, which would cause attraction OR repulsion, thus causing the stator to spin!
"c) The 'nozzle'-shaped symbol shown pointing from the centre to the inside ring, and the curved 'blades' formed between the inner and outer rings may represent a type of turbine generator or an 'offset' centrifugal thrusting propulsion unit. The 'nozzle' could be blasting high pressure liquid metal like mercury or gas (like air) against the inside radius of the blades. This would cause a powerful force to be exerted against the inside curved face side of all blades, which in turn would cause them to push away in one direction and cause the whole assembly to spin, just like a jet airplane's engine turbine. The other ring could represent the chaseway to recollect the propellent for recycling. ...just some thoughts!"
Randy doesn't think the Formation was "made by a UFO" [neither do I, Randy :-] -- If it were, however, he thinks that it "would be an alien transmission of how their propusion system which is anti-gravitational in nature functions. Their propulsion system is very basic; it utilizes the [relationship] between the greater and lesser forces in sub- atomic physics. Basically it is the utilization of a harnassed nuclear explosion, the cumlative quantity of the individual gravities which bond electrons to orbit -- the [nuclei] of atoms are released and their sum total is applied against the gravitational field of Earth. This crop circle is illustrating the physics they utilize to stabilize their craft."

A Quantum Leap:
And finally, with huge thanks to Physics Prof Ian Baillie of UK, we have the following information on the West Kennet CropCircle. Ian asks, "How 'bout a braided torus? [That would link it] with the [quick-opening] Woodborough Hill toroidal donut of last year?" The photo of the Torus is ©'97 by Ron Russell, our Colorado Circles Coördinator. Ron's managed to capture precisely the right angle and lighting to enable the Formation to jump right off the page. A beautiful photo, Ron!When I saw the Tenen graphic Ian included in his post, something clicked -- I resonate strongly with your correlation, Ian!   =:-D
To set the stage and give you an idea of where "Mr B's" coming from, here are two of his ever-creative (and in my opinion, right-on) sig files:

The Universe is what you see
Vibration, vibration ... quantum fluctuation ... it's a wrap! - ICB97and The Universe is simply a product of the
interactive harmonic resonance of complex waveforms;
created, ordered and sustained by consciousness. - ICB97- - - Ian's 'hit' tying in the Torus Knot with the 'standing waves' in the Formation inspired me to carry out comparisons with the information I recently compiled on the '95 Etchilhampton Formation's Glyph. My previous article exploring what I believe is the connection between the '95 Etchilhampton Formation's Glyph and the Hebrew character ZaYiN offers background to what follows.Interestingly, another of Stan Tenen's wonderful graphics comes into play in helping to explain the following West Kennet-based posters. There are many helpful graphics on his page in addition to the one I pulled. (Click on Stan's name for Torus Knot information.)

UPDATE:Rob Speight (a continuum of ThankYous, Rob!) has forwarded me the perfect pole shot I was looking for, shot from in front of the 'flame' and across the tramline. The 'flag' does, indeed, look to me as though it is deliberate, and not an 'accident' caused by the intersection of the Energies with the tramline at that point. This apparent 'non-accident' causes this particular Glyph (out of all 33) to strongly resemble the Hebrew ZaYiN character discussed in the previous article. With Rob's permission, I hope to get his 'new' photo Linked to this article shortly.
While the possible ZaYiN connection with West Kennet is speculative (and while I don't believe that all of the 'flames' are ZaYiN, only that specific one on the tramline), recall that the Hebrew glyph is generated by Light shining on a section of a spiral within a tetrahedron. To my mind, what is represented in the WKennet Formation is a (toroidal) spiral.
Now: does anyone have a lay photo s/he'd be willing to share showing the lay in the area of the 'three Circles' (poster above), or any other areas they found of interest within this Formation? I'd be happy to swap aerials or ground shots of previous UK/US Formations for them ...

Additional aerial: Formation in situ
Updated: March 7, 1998We've received another aerial of this Formation, and this one, too, is from AJ ... Here we can see the CropCircle's positioning relative to Silbury Hill. North is toward Avebury Henge. It seems that the walk-line/'pointer' within the Circle indicates SSE. (I'm still not sure if someone made that 'pointer' by walking through the standing crop, or if our CircleMakers had included it in the orginal design. If made by an individual, the aerial photo (above) offers an excellent graphical explanation as to why all considerate Circle visitors might ensure that they keep to the tramlines and the already-downed crop within the Formations.)
In 1994 in this Formation's precise location, we admired the West Kennet Scorpion. The Scorpion photo is copyright '94 by Dr. Andrew King of UK, and we thank him for sharing it with us.

Thankyou all, each and every one, for your responses and feedback! I'm convinced that the more of us who put our heads together, the more layers we'll collectively uncover of this most exciting and Joy-filled CropCircle Phenomenon!- - - 1998 West Kennet Formation URLs:
Stuart Dike got himself covered in mud and yellow pollen but it was worth it, 'cuz he brought us back a first-hand report and lovely poleshots of the WKennet 'Beltane Wheel/Torus Knot'. Beltane is a Celtic beginning-of-Spring celebration in which letting go of the past (burning one's old possessions in Fire) and preparing for new growth is the focus. The Circles bring with them a kind of 'renewal Fire' of Their own, and I've seen over and over that when folks connect with the Formations, their lives are forever altered ... an incredible growth spurt begins ...   :-)
Here you'll find Rob Speight's beautiful pole shots of the new WKennet Formation.
AJSamuel's mpeg vidcapture of WKennet Formation from a tv newsclip (~28sec, 400kb) -- this will be removed shortly, so download it if you don't want it to get away ... Also, for our viewing pleasure, AJ's manifested (thanks to his new scanner) some wonderful poleshots for us.

Technical secrets:
I've suddenly been receiving notes from would-be visitors that they're unable to access some of our URLs as well as The CropCircle Connector's website. Here's the scoop:I currently have CropCircle webpages up on two websites. This Earthlink site is one I manage myself (if stumbling forward gropingly might be considered 'managing'), and I only upload the odd article to it to help me learn HTML. Clearly, if you've been to my Earthlink FTP page, you know that I'm not set up 'properly' -- I impatiently jumped in with only a vague idea of how to go about this whole thing, trying different combinations of keystrokes until I achieved my objectives ... My 'real' HomePages are on The CropCircle Connector, and will continue to be. Presently, this Earthlink site is Linked one-way, *to* The Connector, which is where you'll find most of the Circle articles I've written, as well as my monograph. My Connector HomePage Link is below.
The Connector is in process of moving to their own domain. My Connector HomePage URL worked for me tonite (May 11). If you receive a "no DNS" error message re: alpha.mic while accessing it, try waiting through the errormsg -- you just may be rewarded by the page's finally opening, as I was. The CropCircle Connector's own IndexPage should also be currently accessible. If you're experiencing difficulty, please drop me a note (click on my name, bottom of page) and I'll see if Mark and Stuart might be able to offer assistance.

Additional CropCircle URLs:

(illustrated with many color photos and graphics), see my monograph"An Hypothesis: The Transmission of a CropCircle"
on my HomePages on The CropCircle Connector.
This Link takes you to the Index page of The CropCircle Connector's International Archives , the world's largest public Circles database.
This is The Connector's new domain, so don't forget to update your BookMark -- though your old alpha.mic URLs are still good, too, so don't delete them! Clicking above will transport you to the photos of our latest Arrivals, as well as to articles by, and the HomePages of, various Circle theorists.
UK CircleResearcher Paul Vigay maintains a well-organized and current '98 Circle Database -- Paul's db includes Links to The Connector and Busty's HomePages.

Martin Keitel over in Finland has a beautiful Circles site, on which he shares his inspired 3-D work on last year's 'Harlequin Triangle'. This CropCircle Arrived in Winterbourne Basset (a bit north of Avebury Henge).
