Oscar uses 2, 170,000 BTU cast iron burners from Metal Fusion Inc. for the Brew Kettle and HLT. I mounted these on 1 1/2" square steel tubing and mounted them 6 inches below the kettles. Both burners are controlled with needle valves and use electronic igniters. These burners are supplied by a 1/2" black pipe manifold that runs the length of the frame and is connected to the 120 vac gas solenoids. On the outlet side of the solenoids the gas line is reduced to 3/8" copper where the needle valves are. Needle valves were installed to allow the burners to be tuned independently instead of simply adjusting the pressure regulator. By doing it this way I can have the ability to allow different flame output to the HLT while sparging and also have the brew kettle burner on to give less lag time to boiling point once the sparge is done. The high pressure regulator is mounted at the propane tank installed on the end of the frame. Below left is the 120 vac burner solenoid mounted on the black pipe manifold. Center shows the burner and the flame sensor and the picture on the right shows the electric igniter. All wiring is rated for high temperature.
