Obituary - Sarah Davis

Sarah Davis was born near Manilla, Rush county, Indiana, Feb. 2, 1836. When a young girl, she removed with her parents, Miles and Mary Gardner, to Hendricks Co., Indiana. About this time she united with the Christian church and remained strong and consistent in the faith until her death.

In 1857 she was married to John W. Porter. They became the parents of five children, John D. Porter and Mrs. Emma Winters being the only children by this marriage now living.

The death of her husband in 1870 left her a widow for three years, when again she was married to James L. Davis. Jesse Davis, their only child, yet survives.

Again in 1915 she was left a widow by the death of her husband James L. Davis and since that time has made her home with her children.

Although her health was failing she was able to be about as usual until the first of this year when she was stricken with an illness that resulted in her death, after a duration of eight weeks.

Her death occurred February 29 at the age of 84 years and 27 days.

Besides her children there are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren surviving.

A brother, Allen T. Gardner, and Mrs. Nancy Camplin, a sister of Jamestown, Ind., are the only living members of this family of nine children.
