|Nancy Ann Slavens was the first of James and Mary's children to be married. She wed James Thomas Dean, a neighboring farmer, on 12 Dec. 1850. Judging from the 1860 census enumeration, they lived not far from the original Slavens and Davis farms.
The Deans moved to near Viola Center in northern Audubon County, Iowa, in the 1880's, where they farmed. James died on 25 February 1897, the oldest man in the community, according to a death notice in the newspaper, and Nancy died on 3 March 1903.
