
Allen and Martha Gardner memorial, I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Jamestown, Indiana.
Allen T. Gardner, 84 years old, pioneer resident of Jamestown and a former sheriff of Boone county, died of a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Robbins, south of Jamestown Friday night. He was found dead in bed Saturday morning when his daughter went to call him for breakfast. Coroner Rollie Baker of Hendricks county said death was caused by heart trouble.
Mr. Gardner, usually agile for one of his years, spent the winter with his son and Mrs. Gardner at Lebanon. He walked downtown in Lebanon Friday and later in the day was taken to his daughter's home near jamestown where he was to spend the spring and summer. His son James Gardner, who is assistant cashier of the Boone County State bank, has been at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis this week for observation and medical treatment. Because of ill health he has been away from the bank for more than a month.
Allen Tracy Gardner was born in Jamestown. His wife, a native of Pennsylvania, died several years ago. Mr. Gardner conducted a livery and transfer business at Jamestown many years and later engaged in the drug business there. He was former postmaster at Jamestown. He served as sheriff of Boone county from 1902 to 1904.
Mr. Gardner was long active in community affairs at Jamestown and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. He was a member of the Jamestown Christian church.
Funeral services were held at the Gentry funeral home at Jamestown Monday afternoon at two o'clock, with burial at the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The funeral home where last rights will be held was formerly the old Gardner home.
Survivors of Mr. Gardner are the son and daughter and several grandchildren.
Funeral rites for Allen Tracy Gardner, 85, pioneer of this community were conducted Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Gentry Funeral Home on South High Street, which was, for forty years, the former home of Mr. Gardner. Rev. D. Lee Andrews of the Christian church officiated. Music was furnished by a quartet, Mrs. Bert Sparks, Mrs. Guy Lewis, William Courtney, and Cecil Steele, who sang "Good Night and Good Morning," "Home of the Soul" and "Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me." Mrs. Mable Thomson accompanied on the piano.
Pall bearers were E.K. Marker of Indianapolis, I.D. Reynerson of Clermont, D.M. Clark, William Courtney, John Proctor and Bart Thompson. Flower bearers were Mrs. William Young, Mrs. Ed Warrick, Mrs. Lena Endicott, Mrs. Harry Sommerville, Mrs. Frank Dean, and Mrs. Bert Davidson.
Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Marker of Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Winson Jones, Ed Eervies, Mrs. James Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gardner of Lebanon, Mrs. Josie Swalls and daughter of Indianapolis, Mrs. Frank Dean and Mrs. Leland Bailes of near Roachdale, and Mr. and Mrs. John Camplin of near North Salem.
