HW Due Monday, March 3

Color Squares (subdivided into 6 to 8 rectangles)

Revise as necessary to:

  1. Push the contrast of scale.

  2. Explore the full range of the assigned palette so that the duplicate compositions look as different as possible.

  3. Print out before class.

Photo shoot #1: Genre

As discussed and illustrated in class, use your camera to capture a scene (or scenes) from your everyday life. The image should be informal, un-selfconcious, and well composed.

Photo Shoot # 2: "I see a pattern developing...."
Our final digital design project that deals strictly with interaction of color and shape involves designing a repeating pattern of multiple hues and shapes. The first step is to design the module, or unit, that will serve as the building block for the shape and color pattern.

shape criteria:

You've already begun to experiment abstractly with a dynamic division of the square; now see if you can use direct observation through the lens of a camera to isolate a relationship of shapes that conforms to the above criteria.

Don't worry that the camera viewfinder is not a square. Don't worry that the objective eye of the camera records extraneous details and clutter. You can always crop, re-size, and simplify the photo in class using Photoshop. Just have fun looking for the assigned relationship of shapes that will yield fruitful possibilities for a pattern design.
