SPIGOT

Jan Grygier has been consulting in stochastic and applied hydrology and operations research since 1983, when he received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has participated in the development of optimization models for manufacturing and particularly hydropower operations, the latter for the Bureau of Reclamation/WAPA and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in California.

During a post-doc at Cornell in the mid-eighties, he extended the work of Dr. Jery Stedinger and others to create the first version of SPIGOT. Since then, he has extended the program and ported it to PC’s, and provided consulting using the software to Hydro Quebec, INRS/Eau, Acres International, TVA and Manitoba Hydro. Dr. Grygier is currently a senior hydrologist and operations research analyst at PG&E, where he specializes in streamflow forecasting models and hydropower operations. Jan’s involvement in hydrology extends even to his hobbies, where he is an avid sailor and sometime skier.

Jan and his wife Patti have built two "green" homes using recycled materials. The second one is to their knowledge the second permitted structure in the word that employs re-used refrigerated shipping containers as the primary structural elements. It is documented at Jan Grygier's Albums.
