American Government - Credit By Examination - CLEPAdult citizens in a democracy have a duty to inform themselves on the issues of the day and to vote. The material in this exam should already be familiar to everyone, and therefore it should be an "easy" three credits. Of course, the exam can be difficult for those that are lacking adequate background in civics, but that is all the more reason to study for this exam. We strongly recommend this test for all students, regardless of their major. The College Level Examination Program ( CLEP ) is administered by The College Board, which also administers the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). There are currently some 2900 colleges and universities that grant credit based on CLEP exams. Each institution sets its own policy regarding CLEP credit, so you should check with the school you plan to attend for details. Brief test descriptions for these exams are available online, but more detail can be found in The CLEP Official Study Guide 16th ed. You should also look at the Advanced Placement (AP) Course Descriptions, since the AP courses usually cover the same material, and more test prepartaion materials are usually available for AP. You may begin your preparation with the College Board CLEP American Government Study Guide. You should compare this with part I of AP Government and Politics, which is basically the same material. (Includes 25-question practice exam) If you do well on the practice exam, you may be able to pass the CLEP exam with no more preparation than to review one or more of these "Exam Prep" books:
If you had trouble with the practice exam, you should probably read one or more books on the subject. |
