A Path Home: A Story of Thich Nhat Hanh
Created and performed by Masanari Kawahara
Directed by Sandy Spieler

This intimate performance explores the life and work of Thich Nhat Hanh, the Vietnamese monk, poet, and peace activist. In the hands of master visual storyteller Masanari Kawahara, eloquent puppets weave an interpretation of the man and his teachings in this new production. Based on writings by Thich Nhat Hanh, this active meditation juxtaposes the simple joys of life with the horrors of war and violence, and illuminates his influential path through both.

Hansel and Gretel: A Fairy Tale Thanksgiving

Humperdinck's utterly delightful opera is staged with great soloists, dancers and magical, eye-popping 18-foot puppets. All these to tell the tale of a little boy and girl who wander lost into the woods, but emerge reunited with their rejoicing parents.

The Holiday Pagaent

OPEN EYE rings in the holiday season with an ALL NEW production of its beloved Holiday Pageant, offered for the first time in the intimate setting of the company’s beautiful theatre.
This family-friendly, joyfully amusing celebration of the Christmas season crackles with puckish sensibilities. Expect trumpets and tricks, angels and devils, shepherds...and a little lamb. You'll experience a whole lot of magical puppetry and holiday cheer. The one-hour show is served up with cookies and hot cider for all. Music Composed by Victor Zupanc, newly arranged for a community choir. Michael Sommer's reprises his role as Lucifer with Elise Langer as his minion. (Yes - Come see the Christmas story with an Open Eye Twist!) Puppeteered by Andy Kraft, Liz Schacterle, and Laura Lechner.

This alternative holiday show combines street theatre, HOBT’s expressive puppetry, and an outdoor candle-lit procession. Much more than a straightforward enactment of the Christmas story, La Natividad unites evocative theater with an open-armed community celebration of inclusion and generosity. It has become a tradition for many in the Twin Cities who wish to push beyond the commercialism that abounds during this season and experience the essence of the holiday.
