International Grav-Ball Association
Hall of Honor

The I.G.B.A. Hall of Honor is the final resting place for those players who, throughout their careers, have sacrificed their bodies for their teams.

To be enshrined here, a player must accumulate 5 bionic parts during his career. A player will gain immediate entry if he suffers a debilitating injury during a game. Fortunately for the players, playing armor makes the latter method very unlikely, and it has only happened once.

The I.G.B.A. has completed six seasons of operation. In that time, only 11 players have earned the right to membership in this exclusive club. Here you will find brief biographies of those players, presented in the order in which the players were inducted into the Hall.

Manfred "The Man" Makitalo

Inducted: 21Jan90
Teams: Czechoslovakia Chiefs
The League's career goals leader was the inaugural Hall member when he was incapacitated by Gutboy Barrelhouse 20 ATU's into the 1st period of a game against the Anchorage Snow Bunnies. Barrelhouse incapacitated 3 Chiefs that day, causing 17 games and 3 BP of damage, both League records. That was despite serving the entire 2nd period in the box for assaulting Chief's goalie Ggian Giordano. That assault led to the Buns' first goal. McCurtin added another goal at the horn in the 3rd period, giving the Bunnies a 2-1 victory.

Manfred is probably best-known for his career game against Baltimore, the last game of the 1984-85 season. He scored 5 goals against Bloodsuckers' goalie Tippy Tupper, before Heatless Huey finally game him a 4-game rest at 5 ATU's into the 3rd, after Juan Jose Smith took out former Chief Anton Kosikonikov.

He was incapacitated 21 times in 25 games for the Chiefs, missing 19 games due to injury.

Manfred is hoping to be joined in the Hall by Stewart McClain, before McClain can get another goal and break the long-standing career record of 16 goals.

Kelly "Forward Crusher" Hrdina

Inducted: 10Mar90
Teams: Czechoslovakia Chiefs
The most hated player in the I.G.B.A. was retired after he crashed into the wall 18 ATU's into the 2nd period of a game in Anchorage.

Earlier in the game, Kelly incapacitated both Dixie Flatline and Usagi Yojimbo. The Chiefs eventually won the game 4-2.

After his recovery, Hrdina took the reins as head coach of the struggling Chiefs, and rallied them to win their fourth consecutive I.G.B.A. Championship in 1990.

His career spanned 36 games, all in Czechoslovakia. He scored 3 goals (2 game-winners, one of which started the 1987 Championship Series), had 26 kills and 730 penalty ATU's. He inflicted 31 games of injury time, while suffering for 15 games himself from 18 times incapacitated.

In 1984-85, he was runner up for the incapacitation trophy, with 9 kills over 7 games. That was good enough for 2nd place behind teammate Same Spade, who amazingly had 10 kills playing largely as Hrdina's backup. In one game against St. Louis, Hrdina had 4 kills and 40 ATU's, helping his team win 4-1.

Caligula

Inducted: 21Apr90
Teams: St. Louis Sadists, Oakland Sludge, Cleveland Sludge
Incapacitated by Samuel "Busted Flush" Matucci of Chicago, 24 ATU's into the 3rd period. The Sludge already trailed 3-1, and eventually lost 4-1.

Caligula was obtained from St. Louis in 1986, in an effort to add scoring punch. However, he only netted 4 goals in 18 games for the Sludge, while being incapacitated 15 times in that same span.

Twice in his career he scored twice in a game, getting the game winner each time: 1985 against Baltimore, and 1988 against Anchorage.

Ragneash "The Wart" Yitzhak

Inducted: 10Nov90
Teams: Cuba Cutthroats, Cleveland Sludge
Incapacitated performing a save 11 ATU's into the 2nd period. His save efforts were for naught, as the Sludge gave up a goal to the Chiefs' Chung Bruce Goldman 2 ATU's later, and lost the game 3-0. The Sludge were unable to register a shot on the Chief goal in the entire game, and missed the playoffs due to the loss. In that same game, Heartless gave 3 bionic parts to Doctor Fresh, who would soon join his teammate in the Hall.

"The Wart" has played the fewest games of any Hall inductee. He had only 6 appearances with Cuba and Cleveland. He scored a goal in his first game, against Oakland in 1985, but never scored again. Twice later he got an assist and a kill in the same game.

Peter "Big Petey Ten-Fingers" Vestuzzio

Inducted: 04Dec94
Teams: Chicago Mafia
Peter "Big Petey Ten Fingers" Vestuzzio's career came to an end 12 ATU's into the 3rd period, when he was incapacitated by James "Eat Glass" Street.

Peter joined the Mafia during the 1987 championship series, and impressed coach George Smith enough to earn a permanent roster spot the following season. However, he got only limited Volume-time, and failed to capitalize when he got his chances. His only goal came against the Sludge in 1990.

Nabuo Fujito

Inducted: 28Jan95
Teams: Czechoslovakia Chiefs
Incapacitated by Restivo Besyzan at the start of the second period. Nabuo was Chicago's only kill of the game. The Chiefs did not manage any kills that day, and lost 1-0 to their arch-rivals from Chicago. Nabuo won the faceoff to start the 2nd period, and attempted to strike Besyzan with the ball. He was unsuccessful, and paid a big price for his error.

Fujito is tied for third in career goals with 13. He started his career very impressively, scoring 8 goals in his first 8 appearances, with 4 game-winners. Injuries took their toll in 1988 and 1990, and his production suffered. He had scored a goal in 1994 and was threatening to reach teammate Makitalo's scoring record when he was retired.

At the time of his retirement, Nabuo also co-held the league record for the most game-winning goals in a career, 7. He shares the record with former teammate Peter Kosikonikov, now with Cleveland.

His best game came in 1987 against Anchorage, when he scored 2 goals, and incapacitated both Rauri McCurtin and Darni Bengal in a 2-0 Chiefs' victory.

When Fujito received his 2 bionic parts from Gutboy Barrelhouse in 1987, he also received quite a scare. Barrelhouse had mangled him so badly that it seemed Fujito would be the first player to gain immediate entry into the Hall. However, some quick work by the Chiefs' medical staff limited the damage and allowed him to continue his career, after a long rest in the hospital.

Unamit Ahazredit

Inducted: 06Aug95
Teams: Anchorage Snow Bunnies
Incapacitated by his own Heartless Huey 24 ATU's into the 3rd period of a 3-3 tie with Chicago. Regulation ended 2-2, and both teams scored a goal in OT to preserve the tie. Anchorage's goal came from Titus O'Neil at the final horn. Heartless had a stellar night, getting 5 kills, for 8 games of injury time and 2 bionic parts.

Unamit never scored a goal for his team, but did get 15 incapacitations over 17 games, including a League record 5 against Czechoslovakia in the 1986 Tournament.

Renaldo (choke) Reynolds

Inducted: 19Aug95
Teams: Oakland Sludge, St. Louis Sadists, Czechoslovakia Chiefs
Incapacitated by Skoraeus Stonebones 10 ATU's into the 3rd period. Amazingly enough, Stonebones received no penalty for his brutal attack on Renaldo. The unbalanced officiating was not enough to prevent the Chiefs from winning the game 3-1, with all 3 goals scored while the Chiefs held 2-man advantages.

Choke had a long, but indistinguished career with St. Louis and Czechoslovakia, who selected him in the 1987 draft. He scored a goal in his first game for the Chiefs, against Oakland in 1987. His best effort came in a meaningless game against Chicago in 1988, when he got a goal and 2 kills (Alphonso Incarcadina and Dominik Besyzan), without being incapacitated. His 60 penalty ATU's in that game were also a career high. His 2nd period goal earned a 2-2 tie for the Chiefs.

Doctor Fresh

Inducted: 26Aug95
Teams: Boston Stranglers, Cleveland Sludge
Fresh was incapacitated by Rasputin Ivanovitch of Oahu, 23 ATU's into the 2nd period. Earlier in the game, Fresh had assisted on The Silver Egghead's goal, which eventually proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 Sludge victory.

Fresh burst onto the IGBA scene by scoring 4 goals against Oakland in his only appearance for the Boston Stranglers. After the Sludge moved to Cleveland, they selected him in the second draft. However, he failed to produce, scoring only 1 goal for the Sludge, a 3rd period game-winner in 1990 against arch-rival Czechoslovakia.

Fresh was incapacitated 7 times in 8 games for the Sludge, with 10 games missed due to injury.

Fritz "Ironpaw" Stern

Inducted: 02Sep95
Teams: Anchorage Snow Bunnies, Cleveland Sludge
Fritz Stern won immediate entry into the Hall after crashing into a wall in Czechoslovakia. He was injured so badly that he earned permanent rest in the Cleveland Sludge Convalescent Centre, in Maple Heights, Ohio.

Chiefs goalie Freeman Dobknuckler was incapacitated by Heartless Huey after the crash, but the Sludge couldn't convert the opportunity. The Chiefs won 1-0 on a goal by Juan Jose Felipe Gonzalez Santiago Sanchez Lopez Garcia Smith.

Fritz scored 5 goals over 16 games with Anchorage and Cleveland. He was also incapacitated 7 times and earned 170 ATU's in the box over that time. He only had one kill, Dispater, during his career.

The Meatman

Inducted: 16Aug97
Teams: St. Louis Sadists, Cleveland Sludge
The Meatman's career came to an end at roughly the same time as the Sludge's hopes in the 1997 Finals. The Mafia's Giuseppe Carducci inacapacitated him (allegedly with the ball, although no foul was called) 13 ATU's into the 2nd period of game 3. 3 ATU's later, Carducci put the ball behind Cleveland goalie Harold Samolej to give the Mafia a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Meatman started in St. Louis in 1985, where his only statistic was a 50 ATU penalty against the Chiefs in 4-1 Sadists loss.

He transferred to the Sludge in 1986, and quickly became the anchor of their back line.

The best performance of his career came in the final week of the 1997 season. The Meatman earned two goals, an assist and a kill to help the Sludge defeat the hapless Bunnies 3-0, and clinch their first-ever regular season championship. His kill in that game gave former Sludge teammate Ming Ming Uraquad'n Anderson a 2 game rest and a bionic part.
