to Heart Attack Cause of Death - Robert Grady Kennemer, who was an 84-year-old
Rt. 3, Paris resident, apparently drowned in a small pool where he had been fishing
near his residence Thursday evening after suffering from some type of heart ailment,
according to Justice of the Peace Chester Oakes. 'I ruled Mr. Grady Kennemer
expired from drowning, due to a heart attack,' Oakes said. 'I believe he was
still alive when he entered the water.' James Ward, a neighbor of the Kennemers,
found the body at about 7:15 p.m. after Mrs. Kennemer asked him to look for her
husband who had left the house about 6:30 p.m. Lamar County sheriff's deputies
and Oates were called to the scene shortly after the discovery. A fishing pole
and a bucket were discovered near the body, deputies said. Mr. Kennemer was
found face down in about one foot of water, about 100 yards from his house.
He had a history of heart trouble, deputies said. Bright-Holland Funeral Home
is handling arrangements. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at
2 p.m. in the Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Short,
the Rev. Leslie Evans and the Rev. Burl Humphrey officiating. Burial will be
in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until 8:30
p.m. at the funeral home. They will be at the home of Roy Cunningham, 2935 Hubbard.
Mr. Kennemer was born Dec. 16, 1897, in Biardstown, a son of John William Kennemer
and Emma Wright Templeton Kennemer. He married Beatrice Rodgers on June 15,
1929, in Paris. He was graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in
1920, receiving a bachelor's degree. He was a retired school teacher having
taught for 31 years in Lamar County schools. He retired in 1951. He was a member
of the Glory Baptist Church where he taught the men's Sunday school class. He
was a member of the RSVP and the Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are
his wife; one son, Robert M. (Bob) Kennemer of Bridgeport; one daughter, Mrs.
Roy (Loretta) Cunningham of Paris; three grandsons, Mike Kennemer and Wayne
Kennemer, both of Bridgeport and Greg Cunningham of Paris; one sister, Mrs. Ed
(Ina) Mathews of Paris; one brother, Neal Kennemer of Paris.' Beatrice RODGERS
