To Mrs H.D. Burk from L.L. Burk
Dear Wife once more to thee I write - While far from thee I stay - Tis of thee I dream in the night and forget thee not at ady I ???? thear and of all objects most dear the idol of my heart -nothing so quick can bring the tear as from thee to have to part.

Dear Wife one thing I ask of thee and tis all I demand - Do you shed tears of grief for me - While I am in a distant land - the most lonesome hours of my life are while from from thee - thinking of my child and wife and how happy we shall be - But ah thank god the time will come at least I an in hope remain???? - when I shall meet you at our home and live in peace again. I am happy then we shall be no mo tears of grief to shed - Then no more from home will I be to be mourned for as dead. - This not you alone I with to see but our sweet child most dear - These too I want to see - For him too I've dropped a tear.

They too claim a place within my breast - That nothing else can fill - Without him and thee I cannot rest - A'er let my heart be still - May heaven bless my babe and wife - and shield them from all harm Secure to them the blessings of life and tharr affections warm - But should we never meet again on earth my dearest dearof preaedence do not complain nor shed a tear - But let us live by faith divine and on our savior rely - ??? and our sinfulness resign let us >>>>>>>> die
My babe do then teach him the way that leads from earth to heaven that he may stand in Brite array prepared for god and heaven. - Then when called from earth to part and all things that seem most dear there will be something in our heart that says all is right never fear - Then an unbruden family in heaven will form there to live and reign eternally where parting will ever be done. _ Oh, may this be our happy lett when time shall be no more - when all sorror shall be forgot and parting shall be no more. - So fare you well awhile my dear til we shall met again. - For you I'll shed the silent tear while I from you remain - Dear wife this is all I ask of you is to pray for me that I may get home over the is his in ????????
