He was mis-diagnosed and treated for indigestion: had lifted a large rock the night before his death. He died on 17 Mar 1943 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was a Carpenter. He was the led carpenter foreman at "Potash Company of America" in Carlsbad, NM.

* Alvis was the lead carpenter foreman at Potash Company of America in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
*He died of a heart attack, which had been misdiagnosed and was treated for indigestion. The night before his death he had lifted a large rock at work.

* THE DAILY CURRENT-ARGUS - Carlsbad, NM - Wednesday, March 7, 1943. DEATH CLAIMS 'AL' BURKE --- Alvis L. (Al) burke, 53, of 706 West Pierce Street, died of a heart attack at his home about 6 o'clock this morning. After he suffered one attack about 2 o'clock, a doctor was summoned. Burke rallied and the doctor left about two hours before the fatal attack. burke was a carpenter foreman at the Potash Company of America for many years. He worked yesterday. Burke lived in Carlsbad for 15 years, coming here from Arkansas. He was born in Lafayette County. WIFE SURVIVES Survivors include his wife, one daughter,Emilie, and one son, Denton, all of Carlsbad; five brothers Henry Burke, formerly of Carlsbad, now serving with the army in New York, Charlie Grady and Howard Burke, all of Stamps, Arkansas, and Harvey Burke of Waldo, Arkansas; two sisters, Mrs. Olen Drake of Stamps, and Mrs. Elmo Tillinghart of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and one uncle, Edgar Burke of Carlsbad. Funeral services are pending.

(Al) Burke, 53, will be held at the West Chapel at 4 p.m. tomorrow with the Rev. C. E. Jameson, Methodist minister, in charge. Burial will be in the Carlsbad cemetery. Burke died of a heart attack at his home, 706 West Pierce street, Wednesday morning. A carpenter foreman at the Potash Company of America, Burke lived in Carlsbad 15 years, coming here from Arkansas. He leaves his wife, one daughter and one son.
* THE DAILY CURRENT-ARGUS - Carlsbad, NM - Friday, March 9, 1943. BURKE CREW- MEN ACT AS HONORARY PALLBEARERS Fourteen Carpenters who worked under Alvis L. (Al) Burke at the Potash Company of America were to be honorary pallbearers at his funeral services this afternoon. Rites were set for 4 o'clock at the West Chapel followed by burial at the Carlsbad cemetery. Active pallbearers include Clem Baggatt, P.R. Lucas, Harry Skinner, Earl Bowers, Mack Pior and Luther Nelson. Former employees of Burke acting as honorary pallbearers: Frank Haupt, Edgar Burke, Earl Naylor, Loat Harris, W.V. Douglas, Elmer Hamilton, M. A. Payne, Mack Thompson, F.V. Dyer, Arthur Pue, G.W. Waldrum, Guy Moreland, Fred Walferth and B.R. Briscoe.

He was married to Sophronia Vallie HENDRIX (BURKE) (daughter of John William Lee Andrew Jackson HENDRIX and Elizabeth Jane CONNER) on 9 Oct 1912 in Lafayette Co., Arkansas.⁽⁷⁹⁵⁾ Sophronia Vallie HENDRIX (BURKE) was born on 29 Jul 1891. She died on 26 Nov 1934 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She on 26 Nov 1934 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. of T.B. She was shunned by many in Carlsbad because T.B. was highly infectious at the time.
