Marketplace Stuff I am selling that people often ask me about Large Standard-Ratio Flat Panel Monitors Samsung ML-1665 Compact Laser Printer Dell Latitude D620 and D630 Mid-Size Laptops
Large Standard-Ratio Flat Panel Monitors All monitor manufacturers are abandoning the 3 by 4 ratio (height to width) format in favor of widescreens. Although this new format works well for watching HD movies on your computer, people who are trying to find a larger monitor to help compensate for vision issues can't find a resolution setting on these new monitors that allows things on the screen to displayed big enough without being distorted. Standard-ratio Dell 2007FP 20-inch flat-panels solve that problem by allowing for resolution settings that will display stuff larger and without distortion, plus they have a built-in USB hub. These 20-inch Dell 2007FP's sell new for $400, but I can get gently-used corporate "off-lease" ones for less than half that price. Let me know if you'd like to get one of these wonderful large flat-screens. The one I have in stock right now, which does not have the optional speaker bar as shown in the photo, is priced at $179.
Samsung ML-1665 Compact Laser Printer If you are looking for a fast, compact printer that really lowers your printing cost per page, and printing in color is not important, it is really hard to beat the value of this Samsung ML1665 monochrome laser printer. Your cost per page compared to an inkjet printer will plummet and toner cartridges never dry out. List price for the ML-1665 is $115, but I have a new one (with full factory warranty) that I can sell for $89. It is inexpensive enough that I added one as my primary printer and kept my inkjet printer for the few times I need to print in color.
Dell Latitude D620 and D630 Mid-Size Laptops
Another example of "they don't make them like that anymore", these great mid-size business laptops are also corporate "off-lease" machines, which means they were gently used for a couple of years and then returned to Dell after the leases on them expired. They feature 14-inch widescreen displays and a very rugged yet lightweight construction thanks to their magnesium alloy chassis. What they lack in styling (and perhaps a built-in webcam), they more than make up for in value, performance, and durability.
Most of these Latitude D620's and D630's are equipped similarly, with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1 to 2 gigabytes of RAM, 40 to 120 GB hard drives, built-in 802.11g wireless adapters, combination optical drives that will play and burn CD's and DVD's, and Windows XP. Just to look at them, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference (except for the model number), and the same sets of productivity, entertainment and security software can be installed on either.
Prices for these used D620's and D630's in excellent condition range from $280 to $350, depending on age, performance, and options, and they carry a one-month warranty direct from Dell. Extra cost options would include installation of a larger hard drive, additional RAM, and upgrading to Windows 7. Let me know if you would like to get one and how you would want it equipped.
If you have a DSL internet connection and want to add a wireless router for the purposes of connecting computers, printers and other devices wirelessly to a network or the internet, consider replacing your DSL modem with this great device that is a DSL modem and wireless router in a single box. This Netgear DGND3300, which features dual extended-range N-draft wireless bands and a USB port for sharing an external drive across your network, sells new for $150. I have factory-refurbished models available for $89
