between the
Battle of Homestead Foundation
and the
Steel Industry Heritage Corporation

The Steel Industry Heritage Corporation (SIHC), following long and protracted negotiations with Continental Realty, owner and developer of the Waterfront, has acquired the Pump House and water tower site. It includes five adjacent acres on the Monongahela River, the site of the famed 1892 confrontation between invading Pinkerton mercenaries and Carnegie Steel workers and the townspeaple of Homestead.

In January 2003 the SIHC and the Battle of Homestead Foundation (BHF) signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding which declared that the "major focus of the BHF and SIHC missions are to promote the Pump House as a labor History monument and meeting place that will attract labor groups, out-of-town visitors, students, and the general public interested in Western Pennsylvania's industrial and labor heritage."

Both SIHC and the Foundation entered into the MOU "to preserve, interpret and utilize the Battle of Homestead Site with the intention of the Pump House and Watertower and other local historic structures becoming part of a National Park commemorating the history of labor and the steel industry.
