HNOJ is an Oasis of Learning and a Resource for our Community.

Holy Name of Jesus Church:
 
HNOJ Church currently has 1,200 parishioners with most of them being very active - coming from communities as far away as Lancaster, California to participate in the Liturgy of the Eucharist at one of our Masses.
 
Our parishioners are the driving forces behind the church and HNOJ school. We couldn't do it without our parishioners. 
 
Their contributions to the church account for $40,000 of the school budget, a significant component of our revenues. Through the contributions of individual parishioners to the school's Annual Fund and Scholarship Fund, they contribute an additional $20,000 to HNOJ's budget.

Our Beneficiaries:
 
Holy Name of Jesus School has been in existence since 1924. Since that time, the school has sought to provide quality, Catholic education to inner city students.
 
For example, from 2000 - 2008, HNOJ graduated 270 students 99% of whom went on to highschool and 98% of whom went on to 4 year colleges and universities.
 
This is in stark contrast to the rest of the community within the 90018 zip code where of the 47,127 living in this area only 54% started highschool, 19% completed and only 7% graduated from college.
 
In fact, anecdotal evidence indicates that many of the students that graduate from Holy Name of Jesus School and go on to college are the first in their familes to do so.
Community Partners:
 
Holy Name of Jesus Church and School is one of the main hubs of the Jefferson Park Community. Our parents and parishioners either lead or are members of community groups that either meet or carry out services here at the school in the evenings and nights and on the weekends. Some of these groups include:
  • L.A. County Department of Public Health
  • Jefferson Park Neighborhood Council
  • Alcoholics Anonymous Substance Abuse
  • One L.A.
  • VITA Tax Services
  • California African-American Center for Evangelization
  • Girls Scouts
  • Friends of the Library
