Dear Classmates:
Forty-five years! Where has the time gone? Yes, the world has changed and our lives have changed,
but what hasn’t changed are our memories, friendships and the one-of-a-kind education we
received that makes Hollins dear to us. I hope you will plan to return to campus on June 4-6, 2010
for a weekend full of laughter, reminiscing, and reconnecting.
During Reunion, we will also have the opportunity to hear from Hollins’ president, Nancy Gray,
and to hear and see the ways Hollins keeps moving forward while staying true to the place it was
when we were students. Hollins has renovated many buildings, so prepare to see the new and
improved Turner and Presser Halls, the new Batten Leadership Institute, the renovated English and
creative writing program building – Swannanoa, and the rejuvenated Beale Garden. If you did
not visit the Wyndham Robertson Library during our last reunion, this is also a great chance to
see it now that it has won the prestigious 2009 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the
American Library Association. The Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center is also not to be missed.
Hollins is definitely a place worth returning to and a place worth supporting.
Because this past year was such an interesting one for everyone financially, most of us have an even greater
awareness of how we are utilizing our resources. Hollins is no different and support for the
school is now more important than ever. While the university remains in a strong position and
admissions are holding steady, its endowment and donations have been challenged by the
economy. Hollins is in final year of the $125 million Campaign for Women Who Are Going Places
which will help secure its future. Hollins needs your help to make this campaign a success!
Please consider making your reunion gift today. Your support is critical in assuring funding for
Hollins and for the prospective students who want to attend as we did at 18 years of age – excited,
challenged, and ready to take on the world. Knowing that we have the power to offer that legacy,
while relishing the strength of our friendships and memories, is what your reunion gift is all about.
Even if your gift is not as sizable as you might want it to be, remember that your participation is priceless.
We look forward to seeing you on campus in June.
Sincerely,
Sally Thompson

Incredible as it may seem, we are approaching the 45th reunion of the Hollins class of 1965!
For many of us this may be our first chance to revisit each other since 2005.
Your 2010 reunion committee urges you to be a part of preparing for reunion.
Begin by marking your calendars for a trip to Hollins, June 4-6, 2010.
We'd be delighted to have you join us on the committee, or you may prefer to
contact a member of the committee and offer to help. You can contact any one of
us by clicking on a name to the right. That should open up a pre-addressed
e-mail letter, ready for you to fill in and send.
Even if you are unable to participate on the committee directly, we will still need
your best ideas about things we can do to ensure that this reunion is so memorable
that everyone will return home eager for the next one!
During the next few months we will be making every effort to develop
a contact list that includes as many of you as possible, or are willing to be contacted.
Some of us have chosen to leave the curiosities of cyberspace to others, and will
need to be reached by phone or mail. Please let one of us know of any classmate who might be missed by our use of e-mail and website communication.
We have taken the liberty of arranging--since time was critical--our housing at
Hollins: We will be in West, which I know holds memories for many of us!
Secondly, after much back and forth, we decided to retain, as our signature
Class of ’65 reunion accessory, the lovely light pink pashmina shawls that
we wore for our fortieth reunion.
Sally Thompson and Martha Pollock Sloan have graciously offered to lead
the fundraising effort for our class gift. You will see a message from
them to your left. For those of you who enjoy keeping up with friends
on Facebook, Sally has also set up a Hollins '65 page for us there. (And the
Hollins Alumnae Office has done so as well, for all Hollins alums.)
Join Facebook, log in, and enter Hollins University Class of 1965
in the search area.
We so look forward to hearing from you, and hope this finds you and yours thriving!
Sylvia
