A Group Trip Along CC Bay's North Beach-  Dec. 11, 2004

Ken Johnson organized a local club paddle for Saturday morning and I decided to join in for my first group paddle in over 3 months.  Actually it had been almost 3 months since I had paddled at all and having just finsished my 4th day of paddling back into shape I was a little concerned about how I would keep up.  However the forecast of calm winds and temperature in the high 60's convinced me I should try it.  I arrived at the dock about an hour early and managed to get into the water about 30 minutes before the others were supposed to arrive.  I decided to get in a couple of timed laps to check out my paddling speed.  I got back to the dock just as the others where unloading and just relaxed as they got everything ready.  We paddled north through the marina basin and then exited through the breakwater into the bay and headed toward the aircraft carrier Lexington at the south end of North Beach.  After a few pictures and being repeatedly buzzed by a Coast Guard helicopter we paddled along the length of North Beach and then to the entrance to Nueces Bay.  After a short break on a beach under the causeway we headed directly across the bay back to the downtown marina.  An uneventful but enjoyable return to group kayaking.
