Dear Visitor of the Acoustic Night website,
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that I have retired Acoustic
Night. This showcase series has been retired since May 2002.
I have hosted Acoustic Night for roughly 5 1/2 years, but as of May 2002,
I have run out of "gas", and I have been on sabbatical from
live music ever since.
In addition, I have been taking a more active role in other activities
outside of music, including my engineering career.
However, I am committed to promoting local music/songwriters/musicians
in the future. What that looks like may come in the form of fund-raisers
and participating in festivals. I will let you know, if and when that
happens. Stay tuned. For now, I am committed to taking a break and recharging
my "batteries".
I would like to thank Johnny Richards of Elite Entertainment for sponsoring
Acoustic Night during 2001 and 2002, providing a space/time at Generations,
and for his support of local musicians. Thank you Johnny for all your
help.
Special thanks go out to Jeff Shaw, for his help in running the sound.
Jeff's help allowed me to concentrating more on hosting the show and not
worry about the technical (that is, sound) aspects. Thank you Jeff.
Thanks to Barry Martin and Emily Higgins for volunteering their time in
watching the front door. Thanks to Daniel Garrett, for introducing me
to a little coffee-shop in the Central West End, back in the summer of
1997, which started all this. Thanks to all of you who have helped and
supported Acoustic Night in countless ways. Space and poor memory prevent
me from listing names.
My deepest gratitude to all of the musicians/singer-songwriters who performed
at Acoustic Night (over 100!), since its inception. I have met many kindred
spirits and made many friends through this experience. I am confident
that we will be able to play together sometime in the future.
Lastly, thank you to all of you who have been a part of the audience at
the numerous shows. Without you this showcase series would not have been
possible. Thanks for your support and energy. Until we meet again, take
care.
Peace,
Kentaro Sugiyama
