Everyone has an opinion based on many different things, the truth however, is based on facts. This following information is provided by HETHER CHIROPRACTIC LIFE CENTER, to help eliminate some of the controversy and misunderstanding surrounding the chiropractic profession.

For years the AMA and it's co-conspirators attempted to contain and eliminate the Chiropractic profession by threatening disciplinary action against MD's who associated with or referred patients to a chiropractor. Today however, medical doctors increasingly refer their patients to chiropractors, many are patients themselves. As the tide of public opinion continues to move toward safer, less invasive health care options chiropractic care continues to become increasingly popular.

During the five week doctors' strike in Los Angles in 1976, the weekly death rate in hospitals dropped. At the end of the strike the death rate rose and stayed above normal for several weeks. M. H. Roehmer, "Doctors Slowdown: Effects on the Population of Los Angles County"

Dr. Freitag, an orthopedic surgeon, testified in court that patients who received chiropractic care at JFK Hospital had their hospital stays cut by half from an average of 14 days to an average of 6 to 7 days.

Dr. George Kurkurin, after reviewing Workers Compensation cases in eight states including Florida concluded, "Surgery for disc disease could be virtually eliminated through more widespread chiropractic therapy."

Dr. Chung-ha Suh, Chairman of the Engineering Design Department of the university of Colorado, said "Vertebral Subluxation Complex changes the entire health of the body." Dr. Suh proved that the structural dysfunction caused by the vertebral subluxation also caused nerve dysfunction. He concluded, "In essence, I do recommend chiropractic health care for practically everybody."

Dr. Lewit, a neurologist, has extensive documentation of his experimental and clinical experience using spinal adjustments to treat patients with heart disease, respiratory problems, digestive problems, migraine headaches, vertigo, dizziness, gynecological problems and many other conditions.

A respected researcher, Professor W. Kunert, at University Medical Polyclinic, of Bonn, West Germany says, "There can, in fact, be no doubt that the state of the spinal column does have a bearing on the functional status of the internal organs."

From antiquity mankind has recognized the intimate relationship between the spine and health. Hippocrates, known as the "Father of Medicine", said, "One or more vertebrae of the spine may or may not go out of place very much. They might give way very little, and if they do, they are likely to produce serious complications and even death, if not properly adjusted."

The greatest name in Western healing, Galen (Galenus), who lived in Rome a few centuries after Hippocrates is credited with giving the first recorded chiropractic style adjustment.
Galen said, "Leaving the affected parts alone, you will reach the spine from which you will treat disease."

Spinal adjustment procedures were found in China by a series of drawings recorded on turtle shells that indicate spinal care was practiced there over 4000 years ago.

As long ago as 1921, in modern times, studies conducted on cadavers revealed a 99 percent correlation between disease processes in the organs and the corresponding spinal nerves.

Thomas Edison said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame and in the cause and prevention of disease."

According to Ralph Nader in a 1994 report, 300,000 people are killed each year from botched medical procedures or because they were given the wrong prescription drugs.

Modern government inquires into chiropractic from Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and England have all recommended government funding for chiropractic services.

WHAT SOME M.D.'S ARE SAYING

"The medical profession has become derelict in discerning the side effects of antibiotics. They devastate the very micro- organisms that maintain the homeostasis (normalcy) of the living internal and external surfaces. Once "cleared" of harmful and helpful bacteria alike, most opportunistic organisms gain a foothold and proliferate (spread)." Keith W. Schnert, M.D.

"Up to half of the 110 million antibiotic prescription written annually by private practitioners may be inappropriate. They neither shorten the course of acute illness nor prevent secondary bacterial infections. Doctors wrote 18 million antibiotic prescriptions in 1992 for upper respiratory tract infections, an ailment for which they are essentially useless. U.S. doctors, in fact, prescribe more antibiotics for childhood ear infections than for any other ailment. Despite the escalating use, office visits for the ailment have doubled." Dr. James Hughes, U.S. Center For Disease Control.

Antibiotic Facts published by the Florida Chiropractic Society in 1998, state: Over 2 million people are infected by bacteria in U.S. hospitals each year. About 90,000 of these people
die, and about 70 percent are infected by resistant bacteria. It costs over $5 billion each year to treat these people.

One out of every six visits to the medical doctors office results in an antibiotic prescription. Of the 145,000,000 million prescriptions written in the medical doctors' offices annually, up to half are not justified. Of the 190,000,000 prescriptions written in hospitals, between 25 and 45 percent are unneeded.

Of the 50,000,000 pounds of antibiotics produced in the United States each year, more than 40 percent is used on livestock and other animals. Of that, less than 20 percent is used to fight infections, while the remainder is used to stimulate growth. Says Dr. Levy, "When genes for resistance emerge, whether from human use or animal use of a drug, they're part of the same gene pool."

Most people are now aware of the growing concerns over antibiotic resistance, but not many are aware of the role their toothpaste, soaps, household cleaners and plastics play in this
catastrophe.

Dr. Stuart Levy is a microbiologist at Tufts University School of Medicine. He said, "It's a big issue, a big issue. People may not understand the impact of prescription antibiotics, but show them something under the sink or in the bathroom and it really hits home." These products incorporate bacteria killing substances too potent to be used in the body. Incapable of killing all bacteria, the hardiest of bacteria survive, which allows these strong resistant bugs to proliferate. Take for example, a counter top spray that kills most "staph" bacteria. The strongest staph survive and multiply. When we use that counter top to prepare food, we take the chance of ingesting a hardy germ, already resistant to the antibacterial spray.

"I don't think we should be talking about the medical profession, I think we should be talking about the medical industry. We're dealing with a monopolistic, high growth industry, which happens to have as the product it sells, delivery of health care. Therefore, it is indifferent or even opposed to disease prevention. As a formidable lobby it will fight against containment of hospital costs and concepts and practices of disease prevention." Samuel Epstein, M.D. , The Journal of Holistic Health, Volume 8, page 66

"Chiropractors will never be as busy as they could be and should be until people lose faith in the unscientific religion of modern medicine." Robert S. Mendelson, M.D. noted author.

Chiropractic care is a necessity in maintaining optimal health, much the same as dental care, or regular servicing of any valuable item is a lifelong concern. For acute cases, research proves that chiropractic care takes less time than medical treatment.

Chiropractic care helps your body to remain healthy and function properly.

The only healing that ever takes place, comes from within the body. There are no cures from outside. The power that made the body, heals the body.

Did you know that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that indoor air pollution is 5 to 10 times worse than outside air. Are you getting pure air?

Your body is comprised largely of water, your body is dependent upon pure water for proper functioning. Don't let impure air and water create a toxic environment within your body.

In todays world the foods we eat could be dangerous to our health. Pesticides, additives, dyes and preservatives are just a few of the substances that can set off reactions in the body that can lead to a variety of health problems. Add contaminated water and polluted air and it's no wonder many of us lack luster and energy.

Do the foods you eat provide you with all the basic essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients? (Scientists have identified 20 essential substances believed necessary for proper
growth and health.) Do you eat enough green foods?

Are you getting an adequate supply of antioxidants in your diet? Antioxidants help rid you body of harmful agents called free radicals. Free radicals, caused by smoke, smog, food additives and other pollutants can be harmful to our bodies when in excess amounts. They may cause your body to age faster. Antioxidants have been reported to capture free radicals before they attach to our body's vital tissues, thereby maximizing cell defense. In accordance with recommended daily values a child must eat between 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day to get the right balance of nutrients and antioxidants.

Eating a balanced diet and taking only high quality, natural, cold processed supplements is a smart choice to gain optimum health benefits.

As we get older our bodies need more calcium to help maintain the strength and integrity of bones and teeth.

Toxins in the body often result from unclean air, water and food. Do you eat enough fiber to promoting your body's normal elimination of toxins on a regular basis?

Optimum health depends on your own ability to nourish, protect and maintain your own physical state. The basic task of the Chiropractor is to adjust your vertebral subluxation and help you achieve balance or proper tone thereby allowing your body to function at it's peak to create a state of well- being.

Concern yourself with proper diet, proper nutrition and proper exercise. Think proper thoughts and get proper rest.

Follow through with your specific recommendations. Remember Prevention is easier than restoration.

REGARDING LENGTH OF CARE

A recent study compared the difference in acute low back pain outcomes in patients treated by primary care physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and chiropractors. The study reported that the orthopedic and chiropractic care was the most expensive. When the patients were asked about the quality of care, however, the chiropractic patients reported their satisfaction considerably higher. The chiropractic patients used significantly fewer medications for their pain. The focus of this study, however, seems to be not on quality, but cost. The lowest cost provider in the study was the HMO primary care physician. Unfortunately, the decisions are typically made on the basis of cost and not what the patient wants.

Results of a recent British study, on the other hand, suggest that the extra cost and longer treatment time results in a much better patient outcome.

Common neck sprain injuries (whiplash) are usually caused by automobile accidents. This injury is characterized by considerable pain and prolonged disability in some patients despite a lack of objective signs of pathology. Many studies have been conducted. One interesting finding after examining whiplash patients is that 84.8 percent of patients in rear end collisions are still symptomatic after six months.

Like an exercise program, you can't expect to get results unless you commit to follow through.

Most chiropractors will not decrease care less than three visits per week until there is at least a 30 percent improvement. To do so may cause your body to remain in a chronic condition.

There are many cases that have responded to chiropractic care after traditional medical methods failed. Usually those patients are said to have had, (by the medical profession), a spontaneous remission of their illness.

So, if you're sick and tired, and looking for a natural method of regaining health without polluting your body with chemicals, why not join the millions who have discovered the wonders of this amazing health care system.

Spinal nerve stress (subluxation) is the most common cause of nerve irritation and interference. Only Doctors of Chiropractic specialize in locating and correcting the spinal subluxation. A subluxation occurs if one or more of the spinal bones lose their proper alignment. This causes the opening between the spinal bones to be narrowed which irritates and interferes with the messages carried between the brain and the body. A subluxation can occur as early as childhood. Spinal subluxations are one of the most common and most
severe forms of nerve interference known.

The chiropractor receives about the same total hours of classroom instruction as the medical doctor. Courses include Anatomy, Embryology, Physiology, Pathology, Chemistry, X-ray, Neurology, Microbiology, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Diagnosis, Diagnosis, Psychology and Psychiatry. Apart from classroom work the chiropractor also is required to pass an internship where student chiropractors take care of patients under the supervision of highly qualified licensed doctors of chiropractic. Only the doctor of chiropractic is trained to locate and correct spinal subluxations.
