*For those new to driving horses, of any size or breed, a word about whips. The whip is used as a cue, similar to a rider's leg, when tapped against the horse's side. The stereotypical whipping action of the stagecoach driver in western movies is frowned upon, and for a properly trained horse or pony would never be necessary.
