Please read what God, Jesus, through the Scripture has to say....

Genesis 1:2 (MsgB)

[2] Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.

Isaiah 11:1-4 (MsgB)

[1] A green Shoot will sprout from Jesse's stump, from his roots a budding Branch.

[2] The life-giving Spirit of GOD will hover over him, the Spirit that brings wisdom and understanding, The Spirit that gives direction and builds strength, the Spirit that instills knowledge and Fear-of-GOD.

[3] Fear-of-GOD will be all his joy and delight. He won't judge by appearances, won't decide on the basis of hearsay.

[4] He'll judge the needy by what is right, render decisions on earth's poor with justice. His words will bring everyone to awed attention. A mere breath from his lips will topple the wicked.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (MsgB)

[1] The Spirit of GOD, the Master, is on me because GOD anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.

[2] GOD sent me to announce the year of his grace-- a celebration of God's destruction of our enemies-- and to comfort all who mourn,

[3] To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes, Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit. Rename them "Oaks of Righteousness" planted by GOD to display his glory.

Joel 2:28-29 (MsgB)

[28] "And that's just the beginning: After that-- "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters. Your old men will dream, your young men will see visions.

[29] I'll even pour out my Spirit on the servants, men and women both.

Zechariah 4:6 (MsgB)

[6] "This is GOD's Message to Zerubbabel: 'You can't force these things. They only come about through my Spirit,' says GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies.

Matthew 3:16-17 (MsgB)

[16] The moment Jesus came up out of the baptismal waters, the skies opened up and he saw God's Spirit--it looked like a dove--descending and landing on him.

[17] And along with the Spirit, a voice: "This is my Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of my life."

Luke 4:1 (MsgB)

[1] Now Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wild.

Luke 4:14 (MsgB)

[14] Jesus returned to Galilee powerful in the Spirit. News that he was back spread through the countryside.

Matthew 10:19-20 (MsgB)

[19] And don't worry about what you'll say or how you'll say it. The right words will be there;

[20] the Spirit of your Father will supply the words.

Luke 11:13 (MsgB)

[13] As bad as you are, you wouldn't think of such a thing--you're at least decent to your own children. And don't you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask him?"

John 1:32-34 (MsgB)

[32] John clinched his witness with this: "I watched the Spirit, like a dove flying down out of the sky, making himself at home in him.

[33] I repeat, I know nothing about him except this: The One who authorized me to baptize with water told me, 'The One on whom you see the Spirit come down and stay, this One will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'

[34] That's exactly what I saw happen, and I'm telling you, there's no question about it: This is the Son of God."

John 4:23-24 (MsgB)

[23] But the time is coming--it has, in fact, come--when what you're called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. "It's who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That's the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship.

[24] God is sheer being itself--Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration."

John 6:63 (MsgB)

[63] The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and willpower don't make anything happen. Every word I've spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making.

John 7:37-39 (MsgB)

[37] On the final and climactic day of the Feast, Jesus took his stand. He cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

[38] Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture says."

[39] (He said this in regard to the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive. The Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)

John 14:15-31 (MsgB)

[15] "If you love me, show it by doing what I've told you.

[16] I will talk to the Father, and he'll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.

[17] This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can't take him in because it doesn't have eyes to see him, doesn't know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

[18] "I will not leave you orphaned. I'm coming back.

[19] In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you're going to see me because I am alive and you're about to come alive.

[20] At that moment you will know absolutely that I'm in my Father, and you're in me, and I'm in you.

[21] "The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that's who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him."

[22] Judas (not Iscariot) said, "Master, why is it that you are about to make yourself plain to us but not to the world?"

[23] "Because a loveless world," said Jesus, "is a sightless world. If anyone loves me, he will carefully keep my word and my Father will love him--we'll move right into the neighborhood!

[24] Not loving me means not keeping my words. The message you are hearing isn't mine. It's the message of the Father who sent me.

[25] "I'm telling you these things while I'm still living with you.

[26] The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you.

[27] I'm leaving you well and whole. That's my parting gift to you. Peace. I don't leave you the way you're used to being left--feeling abandoned, bereft. So don't be upset. Don't be distraught.

[28] "You've heard me tell you, 'I'm going away, and I'm coming back.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I'm on my way to the Father because the Father is the goal and purpose of my life.

[29] "I've told you this ahead of time, before it happens, so that when it does happen, the confirmation will deepen your belief in me.

[30] I'll not be talking with you much more like this because the chief of this godless world is about to attack. But don't worry--he has nothing on me, no claim on me.

[31] But so the world might know how thoroughly I love the Father, I am carrying out my Father's instructions right down to the last detail. "Get up. Let's go. It's time to leave here.

John 15:26-27 (MsgB)

[26] "When the Friend I plan to send you from the Father comes--the Spirit of Truth issuing from the Father--he will confirm everything about me.

[27] You, too, from your side must give your confirming evidence, since you are in this with me from the start.

John 16:6-15 (MsgB)

[6] Instead, the longer I've talked, the sadder you've become.

[7] So let me say it again, this truth: It's better for you that I leave. If I don't leave, the Friend won't come. But if I go, I'll send Him to you.

[8] "When He comes, He'll expose the error of the godless world's view of sin, righteousness, and judgment:

[9] He'll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin;

[10] that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father, out of their sight and control;

[11] that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted.

[12] "I still have many things to tell you, but you can't handle them now.

[13] But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

[14] He will honor me; he will take from me and deliver it to you.

[15] Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why I've said, 'He takes from me and delivers to you.'

Acts 1:4-5 (MsgB)

[4] As they met and ate meals together, he told them that they were on no account to leave Jerusalem but "must wait for what the Father promised: the promise you heard from me.

[5] John baptized in water; you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit. And soon."

Acts 1:7-8 (MsgB)

[7] He told them, "You don't get to know the time. Timing is the Father's business.

[8] What you'll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world."

Acts 2:1-4 (MsgB)

[1] When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

[2] Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force--no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building.

[3] Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks,

[4] and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.

Acts 2:15-21 (MsgB)

[15] These people aren't drunk as some of you suspect. They haven't had time to get drunk--it's only nine o'clock in the morning.

[16] This is what the prophet Joel announced would happen:

[17] "In the Last Days," God says, "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people: Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams.

[18] When the time comes, I'll pour out my Spirit On those who serve me, men and women both, and they'll prophesy.

[19] I'll set wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth below, Blood and fire and billowing smoke,

[20] the sun turning black and the moon blood-red, Before the Day of the Lord arrives, the Day tremendous and marvelous;

[21] And whoever calls out for help to me, God, will be saved."

Acts 2:33 (MsgB)

[33] Then, raised to the heights at the right hand of God and receiving the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he poured out the Spirit he had just received. That is what you see and hear.

Acts 2:38-39 (MsgB)

[38] Peter said, "Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

[39] The promise is targeted to you and your children, but also to all who are far away--whomever, in fact, our Master God invites."

Acts 4:31-33 (MsgB)

[31] While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God's Word with fearless confidence.

[32] The whole congregation of believers was united as one--one heart, one mind! They didn't even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, "That's mine; you can't have it." They shared everything.

[33] The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Master Jesus, and grace was on all of them.

Acts 5:30-32 (MsgB)

[30] The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, the One you killed by hanging him on a cross.

[31] God set him on high at his side, Prince and Savior, to give Israel the gift of a changed life and sins forgiven.

[32] And we are witnesses to these things. The Holy Spirit, whom God gives to those who obey him, corroborates every detail."

Acts 8:14-17 (MsgB)

[14] When the apostles in Jerusalem received the report that Samaria had accepted God's Message, they sent Peter and John down

[15] to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit.

[16] Up to this point they had only been baptized in the name of the Master Jesus; the Holy Spirit hadn't yet fallen on them.

[17] Then the apostles laid their hands on them and they did receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 9:17 (MsgB)

[17] So Ananias went and found the house, placed his hands on blind Saul, and said, "Brother Saul, the Master sent me, the same Jesus you saw on your way here. He sent me so you could see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 9:31 (MsgB)

[31] Things calmed down after that and the church had smooth sailing for a while. All over the country--Judea, Samaria, Galilee--the church grew. They were permeated with a deep sense of reverence for God. The Holy Spirit was with them, strengthening them. They prospered wonderfully.

Acts 10:38 (MsgB)

[38] Then Jesus arrived from Nazareth, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, ready for action. He went through the country helping people and healing everyone who was beaten down by the Devil. He was able to do all this because God was with him.

Acts 10:44-47 (MsgB)

[44] No sooner were these words out of Peter's mouth than the Holy Spirit came on the listeners.

[45] The believing Jews who had come with Peter couldn't believe it, couldn't believe that the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on "outsider" Gentiles,

[46] but there it was--they heard them speaking in tongues, heard them praising God. Then Peter said,

[47] "Do I hear any objections to baptizing these friends with water? They've received the Holy Spirit exactly as we did."

Acts 19:2-7 (MsgB)

[2] The first thing he said was, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?" "We've never even heard of that--a Holy Spirit? God within us?"

[3] "How were you baptized, then?" asked Paul. "In John's baptism."

[4] "That explains it," said Paul. "John preached a baptism of radical life-change so that people would be ready to receive the One coming after him, who turned out to be Jesus. If you've been baptized in John's baptism, you're ready now for the real thing, for Jesus."

[5] And they were. As soon as they heard of it, they were baptized in the name of the Master Jesus.

[6] Paul put his hands on their heads and the Holy Spirit entered them. From that moment on, they were praising God in tongues and talking about God's actions.

[7] Altogether there were about twelve people there that day.

2 Peter 1:19-21 (MsgB)

[19] We couldn't be more sure of what we saw and heard--God's glory, God's voice. The prophetic Word was confirmed to us. You'll do well to keep focusing on it. It's the one light you have in a dark time as you wait for daybreak and the rising of the Morning Star in your hearts.

[20] The main thing to keep in mind here is that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of private opinion.

[21] And why? Because it's not something concocted in the human heart. Prophecy resulted when the Holy Spirit prompted men and women to speak God's Word.
