Joyce’s Bio:
Joyce retired in 1998 & again in 2006. Working just seemed to get in the way of Red Hat events, and after serious
self-debate she finally decided to choose hatting over working.
She's been an active volunteer in her community for many years. She was with Big Sisters of Metro Washington for
about five years. Then she became a mom, and was up to her eyeballs in Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts. She held positions of
Den Leader, Den Leader Coach, and hosted the County-wide Scout Olympics events for two years. After a drive-by shooting in
her neighborhood, she got involved with a local awareness campaign about gang violence. Later, she created and headed Prince
William Off Road Coalition, to help get local laws changed relating to ATVs and dirt bikes....and to encourage the County
to provide a riding place for kids and their families.
She is proud Mom to one son. Jeff is 23, and is the in the Navy. He is the sunshine of her life, and she feels that
the most important & satisfying contribution she's ever made to society was parenting which yielded an awesome young man
who now helps to defend our Country. He has grown into a great adult, and she
has done herself out of a job! Now there is plenty of time for the serious hobby of Red Hatting!
