ROYAL MEMBER TITLES
In the
spirit of playfulness, a few of our members have chosen royal titles for
themselves, or have been bestowed with a special title. Please join us in our
own amazement and amusement. This listing is rather entertaining!
Duchess of Glitz Doris
Harris Doris
can wear more jewelry in one
day, than I have in my entire collection! She enjoys wearing as much as she can
put on...and being outlandish, and silly! There is nothing she won't add, to
accomplish her own special brand of the "total" look!
Countess of Canines Rhonda Clement Rhonda is a true dog lover! She has
several dogs, and comes to the rescue for canines that are seeking a loving
home. Her e-address is "Dogmother" and the license plate on her car
says "Dawg Mom". Rhonda is also our Web
Princess!
Baroness Bred to Wear Red Durie White This is Durie’s new title. She says
she’s had a hard time dealing with two different titles for the two different
chapters she belongs to … so … “Her Highness of Heritage Hunt”…a name she’d previously
chosen, describing where she lives …bites the dust!
Empress of E-Bay Fran Pritchart Fran makes a lot of purchases on line?
Would you ever have guessed?
Lady Charge-a-lot Brenda Oliver Brenda loves plastic, and says it is
quick and easy! I bet she never leaves home without her American Express!
Lady Delta Dawn Dorrie Landry This name was bestowed upon Dorrie. She
says she can't get dressed for a Red Hat event, without thinking of the song!
Delta Dawn, what's that flower you got on?
Goddess of Goodness Pat Garvey This is her title because her three
granddaughters say so!!
Lady Luck Sue
Murphy "I have chosen the title of
"Lady Luck" because I am Irish and lucky."
Duchess of York Lana
Tobey Lana asked that we put her down as
"Duchess of York".
Since she's originally from the
Finger Lakes region ofNew York State and the Dutch were first settlers in
that state, she thought this was appropriate for her.
Countess of Cruises Mary Ann Money Does she ever stays home??...She
doesn't HAVE to!...and as the saying goes, "Whatever floats your
boat!"....if it floats, she'll be there!
Countess of Monte Crisco Chris Francone My title, should you care to print it
(lol) is the Countess of Monte Crisco--with a name like Chris, thought this
would be easy to remember and in my other life--I did alot of cooking!
Nacho Grandma Mary Jean Tibbetts "I guess I will be NACHO GRANDMA.
In the age of so many step children and parents, in my family, I am known by
several step grandchildern as 'NACHO GRANDMA.' I think that would look good on
a purple leather jacket across the back."
Duchess of Holden Barb Lynch Barb saw the website too, and
remembered she hadn't informed us of her title choice. She has chosen the title
of Duchess of Holden. She says, "Duchess is what my father use to call me
when I was a teenager, (never knowing that I was going to use it as a Royal
Title in later life)... And Holden is for Holden Beach in
NC. where my beach house is
located."
Lady of the Lighthouse Clara Wittmann "I love lighthouses and have lots
of lighthouse pictures, etc. in my house. My husband, Matt, and I drove
throughout New England, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick a couple years ago
checking out lighthouses (& eating lobster). I love the beach & they
sort of go along with it."
Charleston Belle Peggy Sullivan Peg grew up in Charleston, S.C.... and
her roots run deep, she says. She added "Belle" to the end because
she is a member of Hell's Belles.
Lady SilverDot Dotty Smith Dottie has beautiful silver hair, and
"silverdot" is even her e-address! Dotty settled on this name
because, she said, " I can't come up with anything else. Ugh."
Contessa of Fashion Mitzi Brandani "Since I love clothes, jewelry,
shoes, and now hats I have decided to be "Contessa of Fashion". When
I was little I had girl friends in my neighborhood who had older sisters that
gave them prom gowns, hats, high heeled shoes, purses, jewelry, makeup, etc.
They had a little room off the garage that we called "The Playhouse"
and we would always go there and play dress up. I guess that is why I like Red
Hatters it reminds me of when I was young and playing dress up. Several weeks
ago I was up inPennsylvania at a
class reunion and saw some of these old friends. We were talking about those
days and "The Playhouse" and they informed me it was a cleaned up
chicken coop. As a kid who knew or cared. It was our special domain."
Lady Giggle Blossom Judy
Ranels This
is one of those titles that has
been bestowed upon the "victim"...rather than it being a choicemade
by our Royal Member. Judy began as a very reserved and quiet member of Hell's
Belles. She always came to our events with a couple of girls that she has known
for years. She recently came to an event by herself...and...WOW!... she
blossomed into a completely different person! She is having a whole different
kind of fun now...and we can't stop her from giggling!
Baroness of Curiosity Karlene
Murphy "A
friend suggested, when I was
looking for a name - curiosity, as I'm always asking questions. I selected
baroness as it means - one in charge of money. Thus Baroness of Curiosity was
born."
Prissy
Missy Rita
Flickinger Rita has a friend who happened to call her
"Prissy Missy"...and it seemed to ring true for her. She decided to
keep the title, saying...."I have always loved buttons and bows, and rings
and things...so the hats, the gloves, and the feathery boas make the Red Hat
Society just my kind of club!"
Baroness
of the
Balalaika- Barbara Thomason "I
chose this name because I play the balalaika, which is a Russian folk
instrument, in theWashington Balalaika
Society Orchestra. I have been a member of the orchestra for about 11
years. We have numerous concerts throughout the year. The
music is very lively."
Lady Kentucky
Filly Dolores Swartwood Dolores was
born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Kentucky is the state of
beautiful women and
fast horses ... or is that fast women and beautiful
horses?!? She says that frankly, she likes either
version. In addition, a filly is a young horse, not
usually over 5 years old. Since the Red Hat Society promotes the fun
of childhood, she thinks filly is most appropriate.
Goddess of
Chocolate Torri Oliver-Watkins "We have been brainstorming for my title.....Goddess of
Chocolate. I have always thought that chocolate is a basic food group (the only
food group). I have been known to finish a rich delicious chocolate
dessert that no other can manage!"
Lady Camoolot Irene Fabian "I have collected
cows for 15 yrs & even have a "cow room" in my house & a big
cow in the backyard. Probably have close to 1000 items. My
license plate says cow lover & email address is cowkrazee...could it be
because I'm fromVermont..!!!"
DAME
DUN-ENUF Pat Adkins Pat says she’s changed her Royal Title
to "Dame
Dun-Enuf" because it's all about her now. This is how it all came
about: While on the way to an event several months ago, Pat passed a farm
called Dun-Enuf. She knew
instantly that she’d use that in her title
somehow! It is something
she’s said for years, at the end
of the work day. She’s even purchased a vanity plate for her car that says
Dunenuf.
Belle
Of The
Mall Ann Bell "ROYAL
TITLE" STORY: There was a small group (3) of us that
went to Chincoteague in July '05. The threesome consisted of Dorrie
Landry, Ann Bell, and QM Joyce. Not long after we departed, a
conversation began about how much Red Hat STUFF we all have, and how we just have to get a handle on this obsession. Lady
Bella Rosa...Ann's title, and it is a play on her name ..... kept saying that she just was not
gonna buy ANY MORE hats, accessories, purple clothes, etc. If she said
this once, she said it a hundred times over the period of three days.
Each time we went into a store, the gal with the most packages would be
Ann....and she'd repeat again, "I'm NOT buying anything else!"
This scene was played out over & over again. She was really cleaning
up...and clearing out those stores! It became source of pure
laughter. Within a day or so of our return, Dorrie called to say that
she'd come up with a new title for Ann, and still a play on her name: Belle of the
Mall! When she
mentioned it to Ann, it was immediately accepted. So, Ann Bell...you have
now been officially bestowed with a new title. It fits you
perfectly!
Goddess
Gadabout Mary Pritchett
She says she
picked this name just because she is on the go so much, and because of our
frequent travels.
Red
Hat Nana Mary Grossman
She says that
her grandchildren see her leaving the house in her purple clothes and red hat
and always comment “There goes our Red Hat Nana with those Red Hatters again”.
Princess Busy Bee Margie Mullenger Margie
bought a bright
yellow VW Bug for her 80th birthday. She dressed it up with vanity tags and
a cute bumble bee decal. She
just loves that
adorable little car, and she looks so “with it” driving around in style! Her new title is Princess Busy Bee!
Crown Princess Alexa Wilson She chose this title because she has worked in the dental
field for many years, making bridges and crowns. “Crown”…get it? Sometimes referred to as crowns too! I
guess Bridge Princess just didn’t make the cut?
BARONESS OF BIG BLING Ann McLane You should see the monster “rock” this lady wears on her
finger! This
title is very
befitting. Ann
is now retired,
and anything BIG goes ... when it comes to jewels!
LADY HATTY PATTY Patty Bennett I was "titled" by my husband
because I was collecting and WEARING hats long before I joined the RHS.
Back in the 70's I lived with 5 other women, and we never
"partied" without big hats! Imagine the scene we would make, 6
ladies in straw hats and mini-skirts or hot pants! We had a ball at
most bars that we frequented..... Now I just limit my purchases to red
hats, and the only bad thing is having enough storage space for all of my hat
boxes!!!
Lady Travalot Violet Radd "I recently retired (Yeah!) and my
husband and I plan to travel the country in our RV. North, South, East,
West, where ever the road may take us."
Baroness on the Go Claire Drumm “My hubby and I are on the go
& do a lot traveling. On my own, I’m usually out doing something at
some part of the day. When my step daughter and granddaughters were
visiting last spring, one of them called me “Grandma on the Go”. We
laughed, and I thought there was a basis somewhere in that for a royal title!”
Madam HamItUp Hamida Pencola
Hamida
recently retired from her docent
volunteer job. Her previous title related to that job at Sully Plantation,
so it is no longer
applicable. As some of you may know, she
is an absolute history buff. Last year
she acted as tour guide for the Extravaganza bus tour to Mount Vernon,
and we heard from many people
how impressed they were with the PROFESSIONAL GUIDE we supplied for the
trip! Anyway, another thing some of you
may know is that Hamida is also rather reserved and quiet most of the
time. WELL…..I’m here to tell you that
the quiet reserved part is not always true!
One night, while attending a recent out of town RH event….she was chosen
to get up on stage and help the entertainer.
(She managed to get his attention by screaming from the back of the
room, “Pick me, me, pick me, me, me!”
Anyway, she had to get on stage and help with an audience participation
thing. You should have seen her! We were
all so PROUD! She got up there with
incredible spirit, rhythm and spunk...smiling and enthusiastic the whole time.
She really got the crowd going. Pat A mentioned that she was sooo surprised at
the way Hamida was on stage…she’d always thought she was a quiet person. (Geez…do
you think I’ll ever get to the
point?) Later, when we were all talking
about her “performance,” somebody said they thought she was really hamming it
up! Well, Brenda admitted that she had
secretly been referring to Hamida as “Ham It Up”….only because she could never
remember her name, and it sounded like something she thought was close. One thing led
to another, and
abracadabra….Hamida became Madam HamItUp!!! In retrospect, we should have KNOWN
that she’d be great on stage, because of all her experience working with groups
and teaching history! Madam HamItUp…we love ya, and we’re all incredibly proud!
Empress of Embellishments
Joanne Gasper Joanne
has never been
one to settle for plain. It just doesn’t suit her. There isn’t much that she
purchases that doesn’t get the “Gasper-Add-On” treatment! She adds
to hats, dresses, jeans, eyewear,
purses, dresses…you name it! She adds
feathers, flowers, crystals and/or decals to much of her wardrobe to make it special and unique. This title certainly fits,
and as she admits, “I’m never
completely satisfied with my things!”
