AKIN FAMILY
Going through a box of old family photos in 1997, I located this photo. I put the picture of my great grandmother Jennie AKIN next to it and was sure that this was her father. I knew they had been from New York and that she was born there in 1860. I searched for his name through Civil War data on the internet, but could not make a connection. In early 1998 a gentleman from Wisconsin found my web information at his local library. He is from the AKIN's, previously from New York, then migrating to Wisconsin. After writing me a letter of inquiry and my replying back with what I had in names and dates, he found the information on my great great grandparents and their obituaries. Edwin's obituary layed out his military unit and assignment during the Civil War. Then I was able to contact a Civil War researcher for the area in New York that Edwin had lived in and he was able to get me an additional generation from census records.
