This page is all about musicals since I am an avid fan of musical theatre. For easier navigation through this page, select one of the links below, otherwise, simply wander down the page. Personal | General Music Links | Phantom of the Opera | Fan Sites | Forums & Such LinkExchange Member My first exposure to musical theatre came when I was a child, growing up in a household where my parents loved to gather by the piano singing tunes and involving us in these little sessions. My first recollection of actually watching a musical was when I watched Oklahoma. It had all the makings of a great musical to my young eyes and ears: horses, catchy tunes and a good-looking leading man. Well, soon enough I was enraptured with musicals, wanting to see as many as I could. This included venturing from the movie-adapted musicals to the actual stage, where the productions were truly meant to be performed. Included in my love of musical theatre is also a love for good opera. I've never lost that desire to see a good show that I developed at a young age. My absolute favorite musical productions are those from the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. I love all of their productions and have seen every one more times than I can count. Of course, my tastes are not limited to Rodgers & Hammerstein. I love productions like Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, West Side Story, Guys & Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, Sweeney Todd and many more. Absent from the list above is Andrew Lloyd Webber. Well, as far as the musical producers that are more current, I'm most familiar with Andrew's work. While I cannot claim to like everything I've heard and don't find him particularly intellectual, I do like his productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard. I had only listened to Phantom of the Opera in the past few years, having avoided my family's urging to listen to it. I had mistakenly assumed this was an adaptation of a horror flick to a musical. Fortunately, I was wrong. Phantom's melodies and the musical performances from the members of the original London cast are phenomenol. I was familiar with Michael Crawford prior to this, but was not familiar with Sarah Brightman, the original Christine. Well, to say that I was impressed by her voice is putting it mildly! I set about adding to my musical collection by looking at some Andrew Lloyd Webber compilation CDs. During that process, I found a few with Sarah singing non-Phantom songs. Subsequently, I found a few Web sites where fellow theatre fans would talk and share thoughts and information. I came across several vocal Sarah fans who recommended her music. Within a short period of time, I added her pop music CDs as well as her Andrew Lloyd Webber CDs. I've heard bits of her singing in opera and have liked what I've heard. She has a unique crystal clear way of singing that is refreshing in its tone and quality. I've included some links to her fans' pages as well as other links below.
