Once I was explaining to someone why
I love the music of Gustav Mahler. In part, I like
his depictions of nature.
"His music has things living in it," I
said. The music mimics bird songs, and the sounds of
animals, both real and mythical, demons, trolls, ogres and the
like.
This lead to the idea of having my garden inhabited with strange
little creatures, living under leaves and amidst the greenery,
looking after things. Despite their appearance, they don't
intend to be frightening, merely surprising. If they
startle you, it's all done in good fun and for their own amusement.
And mine.
