For many years, there
was a 10' x 30' strip of the property that remained unused. Being
on the north side of the house, it was the perfect spot for locating
a Shade Garden.
I began work on it in 1998, about the same time as the development
of the Front Garden.

Over the next few years, as I dug out more and more of the exsisting
sod, the Shade Garden slowly took shape. What had
been merely an empty band of grass, moss, and dandelions became
a home for an array of shade-loving plants.
In the Spring of 2002, it reached completion with the construction
of a rustic pergola to support several vines which will provide
additional shade.
