Persicaria virginiana
'Painter's Palette'

This plant was
first known to me as Tovara virginica.  The species is know for a low growing, sprawling habit, and deep green velvety leaves marked with a distinctive reddish brown chevron.

The variety known as Painter's Palette is the psychodelic hippie of the family.  The wildly mottled, multi-colored foliage of this plant is a perfect complement to the stately elegance of Hosta seiboldii 'Elegens.'  Wirey stems shoot out in all directions holding tiny bright red flowers like strung beads.
