Blue Eyed Mary

The Spring blooming Blue Eyed Mary has small flowers similar to Forget-me-nots.  There is a blue variety and a white variety, both of which spread by means of runners, as strawberry plants do.  The bi-colored variety shown above, called 'Starry Eyes,' is clump forming.

The botanical name, Omphalodes verna, gives the plant it's other common name, Navelwort.  Based on the Greek word for navel, 'Omphalos' it refers to the navel-like depression in the seeds.
