The Latin inscription on the
gravestone reads:
"Carpe diem,
quam minimum
credula postero."
"Enjoy today, trusting little in tomorrow."

In the Spring of 2002, I built
a planter box in the shape of a coffin. Staying with
the garden's macabre theme, the "Planter's Box" contains
Black Mondo Grass, 'Inky Fingers' Coleus, Hosta 'Golden Prayers'
and Ghost Fern.
"It seemed
to my friend that the creation of a landscape-garden offered
to the proper muse the most magnificent of opportunities. Here
indeed was the fairest field for the display of the imagination,
in the endless combining of forms of novel beauty."
- Edgar Allan
Poe
