A poet and fiction writer from Kansas who now lives in Los Angeles.  During college and after he worked in several states at a wide variety of labor jobs: house painter, ditch digger, ranch handyman, aircraft burrer, welder, sheet metal worker, and metal shop supervisor.  He then earned a doctorate in English from the University of Southern California and taught college writing courses in Los Angeles.  Now he writes full time: novels, stories, and poetry collections.  He also writes and helps produce the feature documentary films of his wife--director/producer Jayasri Majumdar of KolKata, India.

Hart's stories and poems have appeared in several hundred literary journals, commercial magazines, newspapers and anthologies, including California Quarterly, Chiron Review, Cicada, Commonweal, The Daily Yomiuri (Tokyo), Florida Review, The Honolulu Advertiser, Mainichi Daily News (Tokyo), Pittsburgh Quarterly, Potomac Review, Quixote, and Stand in England.  He's published eight poetry collections, two of which won national awards.  His first novel Never Fade Away (2002) received excellent reviews and is used increasingly as a college text. Two feature documentaries from Hartfilms have played on PBS: Roots in the Sand and Sisters of Selma.

Hart was keynote speaker at the 2004 New York State TESOL Conference and the 2004 Ohio TESOL Annual Conference--and has presented often elsewhere.  He looks for opportunities to speak, sign books, or engage with college classes.  To inquire, contact him through his email address below.
