[Excerpt from a letter to my son]
Hart's homecoming game was against Burroughs. Burroughs was 7-1, 3-0 in league. Hart was 6-2, 3-0 in league. The Hart
players have taken the last couple of games very personally -- the opponents have been ranked higher and Hart's players have
viewed them as mere pretenders.
In this game Hart scored first and then Burroughs scored thanks to two badly timed penalties by Hart which gave Burroughs
first downs and new life. Hart was up 21-7 at half and Burroughs narrowed it to 21-14. Hart destroyed 'em after that -- final
score: 42-14. About the only other "exciting" feature of this game was two power outages.
The Hart defense is down right nasty -- they really hit. Their only perceptible weakness is broken field running by quarterbacks
straight up the middle.
By the way, Valencia was thumped by Burroughs. However, Manuel White, the freshman had about 120 yards rushing. Not bad
for a varsity debut.
Saugus beat Canyon 20-6. Saugus is now 2-1 in league and plays Valencia next week.
Canyon is 0-3 in league and has lost 5 in a row. They are out of the playoffs for the first time since 1981.
